Support for double strike resolutions and other resolutions was added to the development tree a couple weeks ago, and will be in the next big release. If you want to try it out now, you can compile a build yourself.

Some initial testing shows results that are very similar to the actual systems. Example:
    Normal RetroArch resolution (480i) - http://i.imgur.com/wE28H.png
    224 double-strike resolution - http://i.imgur.com/ZWBDW.png
    Actual SNES - http://i.imgur.com/HX7SQ.png

Thanks! That's really great. I hope it works like Mednafen-Wii, producing a sharp (no bilinear filter) picture and without artifacts, not matter the system you are using. :)

Even commercial releases fail to get 240p right (for example, the latest PC Engine games released for Virtual Console). The main problem is that using only the GX scaler is not enough. You also need to use the VI scaler (doubling the horizontal resolution with the GX and stretching to fill the screen with the VI) - otherwise you will have artifacts when the screen is scrolling (or it will only work the way it should for one system, but not the others).

    Bad comparison.
Why the hell use pictures taken of a lcd tv?
Naturallay there would be no difference since your tv scaled the image up.
The point of 240p on a emulator is to get scanlines on a crt tv like the original consoles do.
This is naturally achieved by feeding a 240p signal to crt tv.
The image will not alter much on a lcd tv ( if the lcd tv can process the signal )

    But any way GREAT NEWS.
Also the real question for many of us will there be 240p or similar support for the finalburn cores?
That would really set this emulator apart from others.
As this would mean proper scanlines for the capcom playsystem 1/2 games on a crt monitor/ tv using a rgb scart lead.

If this all works out well, retroarch gx is truly a gift from heaven for me personally.
    THANK YOU!

hi guys, i was wondering if you could help me.
i can load cps2 roms fine, but they are slowed compared to the actual games and footage i have seen on youtube.
i have seen clips of the games running near 100% on retroarch but on my wii they are slowed.
    please help :D

While I agree with you about not been a good comparison, I think you should be more polite with one of the emu authors.

Anyway, it would be really nice if the GBA emu could also run at 240p (with black borders, of course), like Mednafen-Wii does. It looks very good.

These aren't from an LCD monitor, these are video frame grabs from a capture device. I guess I could slam my camera up against a CRT monitor and get a better comparison, but the screenshots were just to make a quick comparison between the two.
Are they slow if they are the first game you load after booting up RetroArch?
between the actual SNES video and RetroArch video.

There were lots of compliments in my post also, I always try be as polite as I can.
It's not bashing the author in any way, Iove what they've done so far. It's really awesome.
It was a bad comparison of pictures as these low resolutions only matter for the sake of getting scanlines on a crt monitor/tv..
On the provided pictures there were no scanlines as the came from different source than a crt.
I was not being un-polite in any way I think.
I was purely commenting the post. Not any author or the app they have developed.
I'm sure the outcome of these newly added options work very well, seeing this app allready rules about all other emu's available.
hell it even made me buy another crt monitor purely for this emulator.

    Thanks! Wonderful news! :yay:

The final burn core will also support 240p?

Would be amazing to play games of CPS1 and CPS2 in a crt tv in glorius 240p without artifacts... :yayps3:

Only a CRT TV we could see the difference between 240p and 480i ... the resolution of 480i exist many artifacts and flicker, in 240p hardly ever happens this issue... ;)

also i tried the full fba core, they they still lag.
also the audio seems off aswell, like a popping sound.

Any release date for the next version?
    Any pre compiled versions available?

I'd love to try out those native resolutions.

All CPS2 ROMs should work since they were never bigger than 23/24Mb anyways. For Neo-Geo I'm investigating some possible solutions.

I came here to ask for the same thing. I really want to try 240p in order to provide feedback.

I would be very grateful if someone could compile a new build.

You could download devkitPro and build it yourself, the build process is only two steps: Compile an emulator core, then compile RetroArch with that core.

Are you on a PAL Wii? If so, try enabling EUR60 on your Wii menu.
