GB Injector doesn't support borders due to a bug on it's rendering when you switch the palette mode (L + R + Y).

I tried to fix that with no success, so for now I just do not allow the user to change the border. In a future, if I can fix that, or at least provide a partial solution, there will be an update for that.

About SGB colors... There's a beta feature I'd like to add (if it works well) on the next version of this injector, which is, the possibility to set a palette per layer (just like SGB colorizes GB games). In that case, the GB rom will be "converted" to a GBC rom, so you'll be injecting a colorized GBC rom (which is the result of convert the GB rom to GBC rom) with a GB injector. This new feature won't have nothing to do with the classic palettes swaping (L + R + Y) that you're familiar on GB Roms. This is literally convert the GB to a GBC rom and set a palette for every layer.

But I'm not the developer of that feature, I'll just implement it if it works.

I hope I cleared your doubts. If not, let me know!

That sounds pretty interesting so that way we could get coloured versions of the Pokemon VC games with custom borders that way sounds like it to me.

Yes.

GB to GBC rom implies now its a GBC rom, which implies no L+R+Y which implies no custom border bug which implies custom border!

I'm all kinds of excited about this update. It is ok if you don't have one or don't want to give one, but is there any kind of ETA for this functionality? (I hate giving ETAs too, so I understand if you don't have one).

When this update releases, do you know if it be used to make a "replacement" CIA for something like the official Pokemon Red VC with the Save Patches and stuff and have it still be compatible with Pokemon Bank? You know, same Title ID and everything else important.

Hi, I'm the developer of the function.
Currently, I do not want to give an exact ETA, is this project is not my main focus and I've run into a bit of a roadblock.
It won't be too long though, I promise! :)

Current version: 1.2 (01-30-2017)

Hello everyone. Today I'm releasing a Windows tool that will make the GB injection process much easier and customizable. I'm introducing Ultimate GB VC Injector for 3DS.

What does it do?:
It takes a Gameboy (non color) backup file and converts it to an installable CIA for your 3DS with CFW. It does all in a one single program.

Features:
  • VC GB injection into a CIA
  • Easy made custom 3D banner
  • Easy made custom text/footer banner
  • Easy made custom ingame palletes!
  • Easy made whole process!

Requeriments: Microsoft .NET framework 4.5

Tutorial:
You'll just follow the steps in program. But just in case:

Step 1:

Open the program. You'll see this screen:
54OzckM.png

Press Open GB File button. It'll prompt you to pick a .gb file.
sOLjSEr.png

For this tutorial I'll pick the game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (not DX version).

When you pick a rom you'll be able to go to Step 2 (icon and name).

Step 2:
This is the Step 2 main screen:
M15JL1g.png

All the fields are explained in the info boxes, but let me know if something doesn't understand.

Complete the fields making the most legit as possible (if you want to). For example:
7NI1V9l.png

I used a title screen screenshot in it's original size as icon (the program will automatically stretch it).
To get that "old pallete" style in my screenshot, I took it with BGB Emulator, doing right click> Options...> GB Colors, and setting like this:

3sFybB1.png
4r5DeJc.png

JCWzQTc.png
ilKyMJE.png

When you complete all the fields you'll able to go to Step 3 (3d banner).

Step 3:
This is the Step 3 main screen:
q6bAh2z.png

Note: The program will load some default values (based on those in Step 2), but you can anyway replace these default values with ohter ones.
Example: if you want the icon and 3D banner to have different images, then first complete Step 2 with the icon image that you want and then complete Step 3 with the banner image that you want. Otherwise if you are too lazy or you want the same standard as legit VC CIA, leave it as is.

For this example, I'll let the same image as the icon, but I'll edit the bottom banner, importing a custom one I made with GIMP (using the import and use custom footer image option):

UEc6Xie.png

You can also make your own text banner without leaving the application, as a quick and easy solution. You can change the font type, size, and brightness. Also there's a preview of that text banner (ignore the red borders, they won't be there in the console).

Doing my changes for this example:

55ltoU3.png

When you complete or modify all the fields you'll able to go to Step 4 (VC parameters).

Step 4:
This is the Step 4 main screen:
uFbRvEZ.png

In this screen you can make the game full screen (as long as you launch the game without holding START or SELECT button).
You can also edit the ingame palletes for both normal and "green effect" modes.
The normal mode pallete is the one you'll see by default.
The "green effect" mode pallete is the one you'll see when you change mode by pressing L+R+Y.

It doesn't support custom ingame frame borders right now.

For this example I'll pick the Super Gameboy pallete for the normal mode. To do this I press the Edit normal pallete button, which summon a pallete selector form.

hTgZUjP.png

The pallete selector form supports exporting a pallete to a file, so they can be shared between you.

For this example want the full screen mod, and the Super Gameboy pallete as normal pallete. For the "green effect" pallete I'll let the green original one. This is the result:
mTLz0ZA.png

There's some things I didn't say, but I think they're self-explanatory (If not, let me know!).

Once we have everything ready, press Finish button.

That's it! The application will ask you where do you want to save the CIA file and It took some seconds to create it.
When the CIA is ready, the application will let you know it.

WeSqtjy.png

Then you can install the CIA in sdcard using any CIA manager (actually I use the new FBI).
(The tutorial's screenshot are from v1.0)

TODO, petitions, etc: For now I'll just read this thread and make changes acording to the best for all. The code will be released much later; I'm planing to do a series of VC injectors... If a new version comes, I'll post here and I'll edit the OP.

v1.1: MEGA
v1.0: MEGA

Changelog:
v1.2:
+ Added: Now when you change the palletes ingame the pallete swapping splash icon will have the properly pallete color. (see this)
+ Added: Option to make an injection with the new Virtual Console (that one which has no savestates and supports Link Cable if you have the correct game patches for that). Thanks to @Traiver.
* Fixed: Override the imported icon.bin flags with another ones, so the game will show on the activity log, and the parental controls won't be a problem.
* Fixed: Now everytime you open a new gbc rom, the program will auto-generate a new random Title ID and product code.
+ Added: Option to make 160x144 (GBC pixel perfect original) screen without pressing START or SELECT (but with black borders).
+ Added: Game recognition. Most of official roms (non hacks/translated roms) now will be recognized and it'll auto-complete game name and publisher.
+ Added: Automatic title screen and/or box cover download! Thanks to @natinusala!
+ Added: Now the random Title ID's won't match an eShop app Title ID.
+ Added: Progress bar on step 4.
+ Added: Now you can write two separate lines in the banner text with custom font and size for each one. Asked by @dbzkamehameha.
+ Added: VC SoundMultiSample option. With this you can enhance the VC audio quality. Useful if your inject makes bad sounds. Reported issue by @dbzkamehameha & @angelhp and solved by @angelhp.
+ Added: Now you can choose the message that we will see in the Home Menu when closing the game after suspending. Asked by @noctis90210.
+ Added: Native IPS patching. Now you can apply an IPS patch directly before making the CIA. Useful for use with GBA enhanced patches (just an example, any IPS patch will work).
* Fixed: Support for Windows XP (Now it uses Framework 4.0).
* Got rid of the interpolation mode selection.
* Better quality icon and banner resizing.
* Fixed the ampersands missing on the game name.
* Fixed the bug that causes line breaks on the Title name and publisher to become question marks.

v1.1:

+ Added: Now you can specify a short game name when making the icon of the CIA.
* Fixed: Now the injections should be region-free (not tested).
* Fixed: Now the parental control won't be a trouble.
* Fixed: Support for 32 bits operative systems.

v1.0: Initial release

Enjoy!

So if I were to use this on Pokemon Red/Blue would it still be compatible with Pokemon Bank?
No, pretty sure the eshop builds are different and made specific for that, injecting a rom is simply injecting a rom, nothing special. Some eshop games have been modified by their original usage to suit the emulation needs, is done by a asm text file i believe, which is how all virtual console games (since wii) was done. But not all games have it.

First thanks for this converter really appreciate.
I am getting this error during final step:
Could not find a part of the path
C:\Users\Khasho\Appdata\Local\Temp\201702151954574678\extracted\ExtractedRomFS\rom\vc_rom.bin

What should i do?

This error message drives me bonkers, the other injectors give me occasional errors but eventually do work. The GB Injector though gives it to me 100% of the time when I'm on my Windows 10 computer. SmartScreen is off, Windows Defender is off, have no other anti virus stuff running and AM running as administrator. Any thoughts?

Has anyone been experimenting with the green palette colours yet to get it more acceptable than Nintendo did? As someone mentioned, two of the colours are way too close together, which will make some games look not as good as they can in green.

Hello, sorry for the troubles. I'm making a whole new all-in-one injector, with better injection methods, and (hopefully) without bugs. You can follow some development updates on my profile status. When I release it, these injectors will be deprecated.

I mean that they won't get support when I release the New Injector.

Awesome! Thanks for all your hard work so far, I'm using all your tools intensely. I guess I'll start working on a compatibility list for all the official virtual consoles.

Are you mayhaps planning to do an all-encompassing Retroarch forwarder too? Some GB and NES games give me glitchfests on the official virtual consoles for no apparent reason.
