It's not a glaring oversight, the save is encrypted to the specific cartridge id.

Failure to mention in any of the documentation is the oversight I'm referring to, as pertinent information regarding a major game changer like this should be laid out completely to accommodate the lowest common denominator in terms of subject matter knowledge. It would have taken them a couple seconds to type out the following sentence (which needs to be added to the OP), and everyone would have known about the issue.

WARNING: Personal dumps will not read the saves of scene dumps and will overwrite the existing save file.

Not everyone knows every little detail about the inner workings of the 3DS, and Gateway should take that into consideration when drafting their documentation.

New experiment: To make my cart as much like a pure Gateway user as possible, I took my retail cart and began to play it on my Gateway (which of course required me to delete my save since it detected it as corrupted) on up to date emuNAND. I then restarted the game, made it connect to the network (which acquired the online ID again), and then saved. After this, I dumped the cart again. Once done, I loaded it up on the microSD and renamed it .3DZ. The game loads and recognizes the save as valid. It connects to the network (I got a couple of network errors but it eventually connected after a couple of retries). It also did not say that it was obtaining the online ID this time around either.

If you're still in that config, can you try something for me please? (unless you made progress you don't wanna loose, i'd understand)
If at that point you reset the game on your dumped version (ie start a new game) and then load the version on the cartridge under classic mode emunand, is the save of the retail card still there or has it been reset with the gateway version ?

The save on the retail remains intact.

Has any two people tried to go online on same dump or cart+dump? I know its ban risk but Nintendo hasn't been prepared for this, they would probably implement checks to ban. Everyone was going balls deep on the firmware after the brick one knowing full well the outcome. I don't have any carts so can't try it myself (sold them). Also what kind of ban do they have if anyone tests, they can' just ban xonsole otherwise people who purchased recently can get full refund saying its faulty to retailers costing Nintendo more money (they are already in the red zone).

I think i have an idea to make scene dumps work online, could comeone use this program http://tinyurl.com/Gateway-Cleaner on its mario kart retail dump and tell me exactly what does the rom content says? dont patch it

After patching my SSFIV dump with this tool online doesnt work, so this tool is the one that made all scene dumps uncompatible with online mode, so if someone figures out how this tool works maybe someone can revert it, but i want to try patching a scene dump with a retail dump content and see if it works

Does the new save/restore option let you use datel powersaves?
Not for Pokemon as you cannot use a cart that has been saved on a normal unit on a Gateway unit without it showing up as corrupt. Powersaves sends back a save configured for retail units only and not Gayeway mods.

General consensus im getting from this thread is that this update = meh

It still feels incomplete. Everyone would prefer if scene dumps could play and the homebrew is nothing new.
thing is current dumps have the cart id's missing,
when gateway released their cart dumper which included this data people were in a rush to nuke gateway releases with this extra data and create tools to remove this data before they were released
turns out this extra data is needed now so it probably wasnt a good idea to nuke gateway backups

there were a bunch of new groups that showed up when 2.0 came out so they should have proper online data (mostly JP games though)

If Gateway's next version comes out with a patched savegame aesmac function, (to ignore fails) we can transplant saves from one cart to another. This weekend we're posting the method/tool to decrypt x/y with a full plaintext exploit.
Hmm, I wonder if this would work with any gateway saves... i'm guessing no?

Is the 2.2 firmware tested and safe to update? (from 2.1)

Are you able to perform game dumps of digitally installed retail games?

Sorry if these have been answered already. This thread's moved on quite a lot since I last checked.
