cool, well still, someone test if the data exported from pokemon will work with mario kart, for example

So online is useless then unless you dump your own games but what it the point becuase you would just use classic mode with your own carts to play. Surely there must a way to do it?

What's the point? So you could have all your game carts on one card! Which is what people say they only use Gateway for anyway.

So the save file backed up from my Luigi's Mansion cartridge is 128KB, whereas the save file created by gateway for that and every other game is 512KB. Both contain areas of data interspersed with empty areas of FFFF, but in the latter the empty areas seem larger.

This post probably doesn't help anyone :)

or if you don't want to do your tests directly with your own cartridge ID, try to find a rom released recently which haves these data already in. Check first if it works online without editing, and try to replace the ID by something else then.

Anyone have any idea about how to compile homebrew into .3ds format like the Yeti3DS download on their page?
They didn't provide any information and I've had no success using makerom.

I'd suspect information on this will become readily available in the coming days. GW + New-3DS-Devs/Hackers are really making great things happen for 4.x consoles.

They'll just nuke the bad dumps if they indeed are bad dumps. If there is a unique ID on all carts, it'll be impossible to have the ID version match the hash checks. If this is the case, the scene releases are complete, but lack the additional ID.

Yeah I know, but ctrulib is far from finished. That's what I was trying to say, though I was not able to put a better post :P

Nope, they're missing support for SDK7+ games. If nothing happens, after not too long now all new dumps will suddenly stop working.

3DS hacking and Vita hacking differs significantly.

ok it seems randomly editing the cart ID makes the game not show up, and using data from one game on another cause "a error has occurred" when booting the game

If the original source cartridge is banned too, people will maybe be afraid to share their ID. Link to patcher : http://tinyurl.com/Rom-Cleaner-0-2. At the moment it's more used for the opposite thing, people are removing data with it.

Thanks for that, this program does look promising though for injecting the code needed for scene.

What if we were to compare the game data of two separate dumps of the same game. This might give an idea on how to work out a pseudo keygen for the game. I mean, if we can determine what determines the ability of a rom to be able to access online services, it would be easier to spoof the "game ID"

It's always the problem.. what can be called "clean" ? scene is releasing 1:1 encrypted chip dumps. So that sounds "clean".
and Gateway injects data (cartridge answers to some commands) to a normally unused rom area. It's more like a custom rom so.. but heh, this trick allows the gateway to do more things and the games to go online.

that would likely need people willing to give out there personal cart ID's which would then probably just be abused

The ability is based on whether the code is a correct one. That's all there is to it. Trying to generate one would likely end up with the same problems as trying to generate PSN codes/Xbox Point cards/etc. You can analyze the algorithm the game uses to quickly determine whether a code is correct at least, but if they did it properly, most correct codes will still not be accepted by the server.

You have a point there but this is based on conjecture that Cart ID abuse is a real thing. Until a later point of time, we can't tell whether Cart IDs will be the basis for banning.

That is assuming that it is a complex serial number. I'm hoping that it would be something like XMD00001 and XMD00002 etc etc. Can anyone investigate into this?

Sadly for me though, the only game I want to play online is a Japanese region game (Monster Hunter 4) and I have a US console... as soon as someone can figure out how to install patches from different regions, I'll promptly cry tears of joy.
