my father in law got a wii and i wanna soft mod it to play disc backups since i doubt he will get a ext hd (there not tech inclined)
so hes got a brand new wii with somehow firmware 3.4 still from k-mart
i know to get the zelda game to install hbc right?
what ios's in other stuff do i need so they can just play the games with at most going into a channel and loading it

you dont need zelda anymore. bannerbomb and a non SDHC Sd card are all you need to get your foot in the door of the wii to run unsigned code (homebrew).

to play burned games from the dics channel, you need to hack up a bunch of the IOSes in the wii and is frowned upon by many, but it works (cIOScorp). the perferred method if you dont want to hack up a bunch of IOSes is using a backup loader which uses only 1 hacked IOS to play games rather than hack them all up. so it sounds like you want to get your hands on cIOS 249, a neogamma channel, bannerbomb, and wad manager.

Use bannerbomb to run the cIOS installer. Then run bannerbomb again to run wadmanager, and use wad manager to install the neogamma channel.

This will leave you with a channel on the wii menu which you start. It will allow you to boot burned games using the cIOS.

This is very minimalistic, but will accomplish what you are wanting. There is no safety net in place, so (while unlikely) if you brick the wii while trying this, you will not have any way to unbrick it. So much for 1 line answers.

I'm not sure why you'd have be be so much more "technologically inclined" to use a backup launcher than to use a USB loader. In a backup launcher, you have to put the discs in; In a USB loader, you select the game from a list.

You don't need Zelda anymore to install HBC. Search around for Banner Bomb. You simply need an SD card to hack the Wii - no other game is required.

As far as IOS's go, it really depends on what game they're trying to use. I'd follow [xzxero's guide: Modify any Wii 4.2 & below] to get your IOS's up to date and on track.

bannerbomb has nothing to do with the 002 fix. that is all handled by the IOS and the loader. there is a "002" setting in neogamma.

o well if theres another way other that TP. how to i atleast get a wad manager installed to get it all started without TP?
i see install hackme. but they dont have a GC controller to get passed the hackme menu and im sure they would find having to go threw that menu annoying

Why? BootMii and preloader are completely benign unless you actually need them.
If you need them, they're there to save your butt from a brick, if they are not, then you are out of luck.

Use the [xzxero's guide: Modify any Wii 4.2 & below] , Its THE best way to hack that Wii.
Yes, you don't want bootmii installed. fine. SKIP the bootmii part.
If you brick, don't say we did'nt warn ya.
Dont want preloader? SKIP it too.
Just follow the steps to install the Homebrew channel.
Once done, fill up yer Wii with whatever you want.
Thanks for listening, and have a nice day!!

I'd suggest taking either of bootmii/boot2 or priiloader, otherwise your brick protection is pretty much zero.

dont talk to me like i just stepped into this crap . i have memory loss lol and i hard modded my own.
and i say no bootmi cause they wont wanna go through a sub menu before the main menu and they dont have a GC controller to get past it . so bootmi would be annoyingly useless for them. so if theirs a way to install a bootmi and NOT have it go to its menu then fine. but ive tried even on mine to set it to boot straight to the wii menu and it didnt

There IS a way not to go to the menu each time
Two ways even:
1) make it autoboot the system menu after 0 secs (sometimes fails

)
2) rename the bootmii folder on the SD card

And you don't need a GC controller, you can use the buttons on the wii itself

You should really get it, there is no reason why you wouldn't want to have a brick-safe wii

you are the one talking like that, to be perfectly honest.

people are giving you the proper steps to achieve what you are after, but you seem intent to not listen.

just get your Zelda game bannerbomb, install HBC and be off, now!!!!
fix'd
bannerbomb is what a /apps folder app? has boot.dol icon etc etc i would have to install hbc and/or wad manager first right?

*edit and should i keep their wii on 3.4 or update to atleast 4.1?

If the dude has Zelda, then he can still do that hack guys.

I know if someone has an old wii with an old firmware version, it's still my preferred method

Also, @the OP, install bootmii if you can and take a NAND backup....and watch what you're doing if you plan to upgrade to v4.2

Oh and last thing...don't think you know all as your statement above about bootmii menu annoyances shows you don't!

first thing my statement about bootmii is from my own experience as STATED .not a guess.just cause it works for some doesnt mean it does for all so to you dont think U know all as Your statement shows u dont.

and again
