What happens if I boot my system in to Gateway mode and perform a system update BEFORE selecting "Format emunand" in the Gateway menu? Does it update the sysnand even though I am running in Gateway mode?
Here is the predicament - I own N3DS MH4U edition and have significant playtime in it already. I don't want to use "Format emunand" because that will wipe MH4U and my saves off the sysnand. All I want is to have an emunand that I can use for everything else, while preserving my current sysnand and MH4U cia install / save data.
From what I can gather this seems like an almost impossibility for some absurd reason. The thing I was going to try is just booting in to gateway mode and performing a system update there, hoping that it performs the update in some emulated environment (even though I never chose format emunand) while leaving my sysnand intact.
Please advise, until I can figure out a way to preserve my sysnand / progress its back to Sky
