Homebrew [Question] Where would you start to port an SDL2 game to Wii U?

Hello!

So I was really interested into porting different SDL2 games and emulators to different game consoles when I saw MVG's video and I went to look online on how to do it, and found out the Switch and Wii U have SDL2 libraries that are made to work the exact same way as each other, hardware acceleration and all.

Now I was trying to get this all working but I can't compile source code made by someone else specifically for Wii U, never mind my own. I installed wut, wiiu-sdl2, but it can't compile anything.

I don't want any answers to my problem, I want to know the best way to know where I start from scratch to start porting PC SDL2 games. I have some prior C++ knowledge, and I'm ready for anything you throw at me.
