Hacking [Question] Running 4.5 - trying to understand the best way to run homebrew/games

Do I need to purchase a Flashcard e.g. Gateway or can I install a CFW and play homebrew/games from an SD Card (without having to purchase anything like Cubic Ninja)?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, new to the scene and interested as I own an old 3DS running 4.5

Thanks, I downloaded RxTools but it mentions having firmware.bin in the root of the folder. I couldn't see this file anywhere, any advice?

There should be an application in the download that you run that will download the file to your computer.

How do I install FBI in Rxtools?

I've got it on the root of my SD Card and when I try to install in the Rx menu it says "Failure!"
