Hello. My friend has a Majora's Mask New 3DSXL that he doesn't use anymore. it hasn't been updated at all, so is on 9.0.

I'm planning on buying it from him, and want to install homebrew/CFW, but I also want to do a system transfer for all of my eshop games. Do I install the CFW first, or do I do the transfer first?

For reference, my current New 3DS is on 10.5.0

You'll have to install custom firmware first because I believe that a system transfer requires both systems be on the latest firmware, though I could be wrong. Honestly, it'd probably be better to just backup your saves and re-download your games.

Yeah, when you do a system transfer, it'll automatically update both systems to the latest firmware, so it'd be highly recommended to install CFW first and then do a system transfer from your original 3DS to the EmuNAND of the CFW 3DS.

I was actually having a similar question about system transfer. In this case, however, is from o3ds to n3ds (Pokémon Anniversary Edition, downgradable). The question is, if I want to use Rxtools on n3ds, are firmwares past 9.3 now supported?

Yes, so long as you have EmuNAND. Though your SysNAND should be on 9.2.

It won't update your systems, it just won't let you.

Ah, I could have sworn I read somewhere while doing my research on this topic that it was possible! I stand corrected.
No it won't. You'll need to be on the latest firmware to perform the transfer but the system transfer itself won't force you to update.

Also, if you're transferring to emunand, on the target console upon the first reboot after finishing the transfer, you'll receive an error. You have to disconnect your console from internet (shut down your router) to skip that last step. Since the last syep is skipped, your titles won't show up until you login to eshop, so don't be panic if you can't find them.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
