Hey, a friend of mine got a New 3DS XL with a Capture Card pre-installed, and it came pre-hacked as well. He had a perfectly working (also hacked) 3DS prior and it still works fine.

Thing is he wants to use his older and bigger SD card on the newer 3DS and simply transfer everything without losing any of the hacks so that he can have more space as well as retain his save data. How do we do that? I helped him set up the hack on the original 3DS but I'm finding nothing on how to do this. The new smaller SD can be erased if needed, that's a non-issue. We just need to have the new one be able to read the older one without losing the homebrew stuff or worse, the hacks or save data.

I tried Googling but nothing gave me a clear answer.

I don't understand your problem, but make sure the new SD card is formatted in Fat32.

For the old card, try a different SD2USB adapter.

I got the system transfer bit. What I mean is would he be able to then put his bigger SD card from his older 3DS into the new one and have it recognized and used after the transfer? He more than anything wants to have both his original stuff transferred over and keep the bigger SD card of the older one.

I got the system transfer bit.
Why are you reading the bit about system transfer when you are trying to upgrade the SD card?

We tried that and it just said something about setting up home menu information and that was that. None of the games on the SD card showed up and the theme didn't come up either. It was as if a new SD card had been put in. (Which I suppose technically is the case)

I had thought maybe a system transfer might be necessary here then since that might make it play nice and have them show up. The games are on the SD card, and it'd have to be suitably formatted or else the 3DS using it before shouldn't have been able to read it either, so I don't know why it didn't work.

Then something went wrong. It may be possible to determine what went wrong, but you will have to be more specific about what you did.

You thought incorrectly. If a system transfer was necessary, then that would be included in the above instructions for upgrading an SD card.

Did you actually do a System Transfer already? Because that is a new wrinkle.
