Yo guys,

don't know if I'm doing this correctly but hopefully you can help me anyways

I got a really big issue with this PS4 here: every time I start the console, it will give me the error "can not start PS4, insert a usb device with the update data 8.5 or higher"

After some research I found some ways to probably resolve this issue:
I tried to reinstall the update, didn't work
I also tried to hard reset it, same thing, not working
I tried to rebuild the database, same issue

Now I'm thinking about an hardware issue, am I right with this conclusion?

if yes, what could it actually be, the HDD?
if not, what else can I try?

Thanks in advance

Do you hear a clicking noise from the HDD? Have you tried a system/factory reset?
I can't hear a clicking noise

and yes, I tried the system reset with the update data I found on the Sony page

also tried to reset the settings and tried to initialize it, every time it just restarts and then I get the error "cant start" after like a minute or something

I had the exact same issue. There's a good chance your old harddrive isnt dead. If you can plug it into a PC, wipe it with windows disk management software. I was able to do that and load the newest firmware onto the drive.

seems like you just gave me an extra 1tb storage

it worked like you said - so it was most likely a db error
