Hardware PS3 sends 1080p signal to my 720p display

I've been wondering about this for a while. I've got one of those 720p HDTVs that happen to support 1080p signals, as whenever I set my PS3 to automatically configure the display settings, it always checks all the boxes. Now, I do have a few games that are native 1080p, so is it best to just leave the setting this way (since any game that's 720p isn't upscaled into 1080p anyway) and let my TV downscale it, or should I just uncheck the 1080 boxes and make everything output as 720p?

Downscaling can cause quality loss if you don't have a good TV.
The best option is to just output as 720p, cause it doesn't have to downscale it can give better quality

I have one of those TVs as well. Although it says up to 720p, I still managed to get a 1080i signal from an HDMI cable, but switched it back to 720p simply because it looked better.
