I'm new to modded/jailbroken ps3's but i watched a video earlier today to jailbreak my ps3 using a flashwriter and in the video the guy says that if i were to brick my ps3 i could use a backup flash dump to fix it, it's just from what i know he doesn't show how to use the backup flash to fix my ps3. someone please help with this.

If you follow a video guide, and have a problem, then you should ask the creator of the video about your issues, not us. Btw I have never heard of a flashwriter for ps3, nor have I ever had to use it to mod a ps3, and I have done many. Usually all you need is a USB thumb drive format to FAT32, and place the CFW update file on it then install on PS3.

Do you have a link to the video guide you followed? And maybe highlight the part where things didn't go as expected?

Would help us determine how to (maybe) assist you with fixing it.

This is the video link.

around 24:00 in the video he goes over verifying the console flash, he says that if there's a warning in the program then to reinstall the cfw or update then go through the process of using the flash writer to make another dump, i had to use NOR when dumping my flash, he goes over the flash dumping process at 17:44.

To flash a dump to a bricked console you need to physically open the console and solder a flash writer to it. Or at least this is how it was years ago. Since that used to be the only way to jailbreak for a hot minute

The flash writer, E3 Flasher, does not require soldering. You just need enough pressure on the ribbon cable's pin connector to make contact with all of the NOR chip's pins. Once you configure the dip switches, boot the PS3, and the E3 Flasher will write your SD card's dump file to the chip.

The backup is in order to be able to recover it using an E3 - without the backup not even that is possible, and your PS3 becomes a fancy doorstop.

Given their first studio album is nearly 30 years old I'd consider it "old" at this point :( as much as it pains me to say so
