An unknown Vita developer has shared an interesting link some hours ago, which contains a full dump of the flash0 of the vita psp emulator - Including the kernel modules and the psvita kernel keys! This dump can lead some professional Vita developers to kernel access, which will give us the ability to play nearly every homebrew. backup launcher could be possible aswell, but for these ones a high rank developer would be needed for programming it.

It doesn't look like they dumped the B.O.R.K. Modules, though...

I also managed to copy the video of DS mode and layer it so that DS games are 3D. Not great, but it works.

hey this was actually a good idea, wasn't it?
I wonder if that can be done once 3DSHAX comes out.

If true, you know who's getting a PS Vita! :creep:
It's all fun and dandy, but I want to see some Vita dumps.

By now I would expect groups to dump the cartridges, at least manually. They have to be mechanically protected in some fashion, perhaps the chip isn't easily exposed or they're made to break upon opening...?

Someone should probably check the guts of a Vita cart, anyone has any pics I could look at? Now I'm interested - I just wound myself up.

If anything comes of this, sales might suddenly skyrocket in Japan.
Japan isn't exactly famous for piracy - they get games dirt cheap y'see.

It's Central Asia and Easter Europe that are the largest piracy dens - anything that's ex-U.S.S.R or close to/within the borders of China.

If true, I might get one.
If not true, I might not get one.

Either way I couldn't care less.
It'll get hacked eventually and I'll probably will have some crazy ass deal where I trade 2 shit games (gotten for free) for a working PSVita.

Did the exact same with an PSP

From what I understand it does not contain the psvita kernel keys (sony are not THAT dumb), but it does contain the kermit module which is surprisingly (people would have thought the psp emulator to be ultra sandboxed and nothing more than a 1:1 psp emulator) a sort of gateway to get access to some psvita features from the psp (access to the camera, touch screen if I recall).

Still far from having full psvita access, but with this, maybe we'll see some enhanced psp homebrews.

Well hopefully it will lead to better homebrew and not piracy. Besides Gravity Rush and Virtue's Last Reward there only seems to be ports coming out for the Vita and most of them are from Konami not that ports are a bad thing. I guess COD: BO2 Vita might attract more people.

da fuck are you talking about?

Only thing Komai's putting on the Vita so far is MGS HD Collection. There's also that unannounced Fox Engine game but who knows what that is. Maybe Metal Gear Solid 5 but I don't want to get ahead of myself.

Should of said some I was including the Zone of the Enders HD Collection which is coming to Vita and Silent Hill Book Of Memories which is a new game not the 2nd and 3rd one rereleased. Ya, I messed up.

Latest Switch 2 leak says it will have a LCD, not OLED, run most games 40fps max, and only be 1.5 tflops handheld, 3 tflops docked. That's less than the steamdeck at 1.71 handheld, 3.1 docked.

  • console @ console:
Switch 2 LCD is about like TN type compare to old Nintendo Switch LCD before. Also games running on 40 FPS look not good for us and people. 60 FPS are best for normal everyday gaming. That's weird. I think should not buy Switch 2 because it like Switch 1.5 something like that. Little improve but not major improve. I think going to skip it.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea that's just rumored but not sounding that impressive for a next gen upgrade. Of course Nintendo is very good at optimization of their games to play well, but for a $400+ 2025 console I expected a little better. Even a $299 2020 Xbox Series S has 4 tflops.

I thought it was supposed to be on par with an xbox 1 in power, why is it running most things at 40fps lol
  • Anrei @ Anrei:
in terms of power I thought it was a 2.0 compared to the switch man 40fps sounds whack is there poor optimisation or something?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Just rumors/ leaks. We will find out in a few weeks. But yea prob way underpowered to save battery, for longer playtimes, like Switch 1 is.

Teraflops are not necessarily indicative of real world performance, especially when compared across different architectures. The Switch 2 will also be smaller/lighter than the Steam Deck so it's performance has to fit inside a much smaller thermal and power envelope. Using a 120hz VRR panel means 40 fps locks can be an option in handheld mode, which will be a noticeable upgrade over the current 30 fps standard on Switch 1. Games could also go uncapped and leverage VRR to keep things smooth.

Call me a filthy casual but I really don't notice the difference between the last few generations of consoles, and pushing specs just for the sake of bragging rights is really pointless.
