And although it's not a priority for me, Linux runs on neither.

There doesn't seem to be any one card that can do it all and do it properly. Cyclo seems to be the best in terms of features, but has Quality issues, no extras, and poor 3-in-1 support. Acekart has spotty literature and a slightly naff UI (though you can skin).

I think it's shaping up to be the RPG instead of the Cyclo after all, but with a few weeks left to research and decide, any other opinions would be appreciated.

"poor 3-in-1 support"? it runs 3-in-1 perfectly, so what if you may have to boot the actual 3-in-1's menu just to use it? the only thing you really have to worry about with the Cyclo is hardware. But apparently the latest batch solved that problem?

I haven't read everything that's been said, but I personally am waiting for a few weeks now to choose between the AKRPG and the Cyclo -- we'll see what firmware updates in the future bring. If my car hadn't died and been impounded -- see my pathetic thread in the OT forum -- I'd have already bought a Cyclo + 3-in-1. Now that it's dead, I'm waiting

Hey

I'm looking for the best combination to play the most NDS & GBA games, with SDHC support.

Heres what i have been looking at

M3 DS Real Perfect with GBA
Cyclo DS with EZ 3 in 1
DSTT with GBA Bundle (ewin)

Which of the above would have the best compatibility with DS & GBA games?
or is there another combination i should consider?

thanks for any help.

Regarding my statement on "poor 3-in-1 support," there were 2 issues:

1. Booting to the cart's own menu. As you mention, this doesn't mean that it doesn't "work", but let's face it... the RPG method is much more elegant.

2. Only lowest Rumble setting supported in Evo's settings, if I read the post on p. 7 correctly.

I mean, considering it's a 3-in-1 and 2 of those 3 functions are noticeably crippled compared to the RPG, I think it was a pretty fair statement to make. Add poor build quality (unless it's truly fixed) and the CycloDS seems like a risk.

But that said, they ALL seem like a risk. Not one of the current-generation slot-1 cards leave me with a feeling of confidence in the purchase. Every last one of them has several reported issues and/or known shortcomings.

Who knew this would be so hard? Instead of researching, I should have just bought the first thing I heard of (the R4) and been blissfully ignorant of the new whiz-bang features.

DS Linux runs on the Evolution just fine, while, apparently not even starting up when run from an Acekard RPG. Even the SCDS1 SDHC runs everything for dslinux excepting that the browsers freeze up the DS when started...

Acekard RPG 3in1 support is ENTIRELY thanks to Rudolph who appears to merely have integrated his 3in1 app into the Acekard RPG's menu system, and then implemented an auto-save patching system on top of that, so it remains to be seen if that level of 3in1 support ever makes it's way into the official firmware and if not, how long Rudolph will keep his branch updated...

Actually there is another 3in1 firmware made by some anonymous guy I think that works just as well. If you take a look at the RPG threads here, the member "acekard" who is the person that owns the acekard product line stated something about how they are going to merge the 3in1 feature with a soon to be coming firmware update along with a lot of changes that someone made with the source. Expect a new official firmware soon with perfect 3in1 support and some bug fixes and some cool extra stuff.

AK might actually beat cyclo at something. OFFICIALLY getting native 3in1 support first.

Use? Games/Homebrew, but I won't refuse features. The more the merrier! Best bang for the bucks
tongue.gif

Price Range? Price isn't a subject
Slot 1/2? The one on the top. Slot 1?
Built in or expandable memory? MicroSD is prefered. But if there's a built-in included, I won't refuse. Again, the more the merrier
GBA compatibility? Yes
Special features? SDHC compatibility, automatic DLDI, Drag-and-Drop .nds (I use a Mac), EZ 3-in-1 compatibility
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular I have the R4, but I'm looking for alternatives. M3 Real? CycloDS?

Support slot-2 GBA? Yes
Support slot-2 rumble packs? Yes
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)? Yes

So, here's the deal, I have the R4. So far, it's been good, but it doesn't do SDHC and apparently, it's missing a few cool features (real time saves) the new generation things have (newer gen: M3 Simply, Cyclo DS).

So, I'm basically looking for a card that's everything R4 is all about, but even better in every single aspect.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I think an AKRPG + EZFlash 3-in-1 would suit you nicely.
It has 1 GB of internal storage(with a miniUSB port), and a MicroSD slot for extension.
Its loader is opensource, I know the devs working on it, and they are planning some very cool features.
And using a custom firmware, or the next firmware from AceKard, it integrates with the EZFlash perfectly.

Agreed, Hidea should get a AKRPG. If price isn't a problem which is basically the big bad point of the AK it would be great if you don't mind the price. It can integrate perfectly with the 3in1, it has dual memory, SDHC, auto DLDI, drag and drop roms and cheats. Good stuff.

The m3 simply is the same as the r4, you mean the m3 real.
I agree with golden, the AKRPG would be great for you, as long as you're sure you don't care about price. The only thing it's lacking is RTS, but it's open source so I expect that will be implemented soon. And the EZflash 3-in-1 fits well with the AKRPG (see posts above), so get that, too, for all your slot-2 needs.

CycloDS Evo or AKRPG, since you like features. If you're good with hacking, try the AKRPG since it's open source so you can screw around with it however you want. here's to help you decide which to get (these are the 2 most fully-featured carts, trust me):
Cyclo has over the AKRPG- Real Time Save, Slow Motion mode
AKRPG has over the Cyclo- 1GB of built-in memory AND expandable, better with EZFlash3-in-1, open source

One question: do you need a slot-2 for GBA, rumble, and/or the official web browser? if you do then I recommend the AKRPG. It works better with the EZflash 3-in-1 than the Cyclo.

Thank you guys!
It seems that I'm going to get the AKRPG!

Here's to hoping real time save could be implemented. BTW, how good is the M3 Real?

M3 real doesn't have RTS and isn't on par with the higher competitors of the flash cart business. It is a decent cart if you want the basic functions of a flash cart but can't compare to cyclo or AK.

Bamboogaming.com is the place I bought my AKRPG and it is at a respectable price and I can confirm they are trustworthy and you will get a great product.

The m3 real is pretty good. It's very cheap and comes with bundles either with rumble pack, rumble ram pack, or rumble and gba expansion pack. but if you want lots of features, the m3 real isn't for you. It does have SDHC support, though.
