The AceKard 2i is by far the most popular, but if you want features, the Supercard DS ONEi is the way to go.
You're right if you want a lot of half-asses features that never get perfected the Supercard DS ONEi is the way to go.

Better half assed than non-existant. But philosophy asides, the Supercard DS ONE's features are by no means half assed. Hard to use, probably, but definitely functional and useful in my opinion.
Well how you define functional is a matter of opinion.
And I think it's better to don't have the features than to pay for them and not being able to use them properly because they totally suck. Sure the Supercard isn't the most expensive card out there but without those half assed features you can get cheaper cards that btw. don't have crappy lagging menus and lagging games. Or is that game-lagging been fixed by now? We know it's not a hardware problem because they run smoothly with alternative firmwares (that again don't have those extra features so you really could have bought the cheaper cards those firmwares are nativ to in the first place).
I can't see how anybody can in good conscience recommend that thing. The supercard team has to fix all those flaws, then it's going to be one of the best cards out there. But until then it borders on being unusable and I would much rather buy a cheaper card with less features that works flawlessly.

Use? Games, potentially with other homebrew apps, too
Price Range? $20
Slot 1/2? Slot 2
Built in or expandable memory? Expandable memory, I have microSD and adapters already
GBA compatibility? Main priority
Special features? RTS, RAM upgrade, SDHC (any mini/micro/sd)
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular: M3 Perfect, M3i Zero, EZ-Flash 3-in-1, SuperCard

Originally I just wanted to get myself a GBA. I have an emulator on my xbox, and I love teh gamez. Then looking into advantages of SPs and DSis and all, I settled on getting a DSLite. DSis look pretty cool, but they're expensive and I'd have to pick up a Micro to cover GBA, which is what I wanted in the first place.

So the next step is finding suitable flashcards. What I would really like is an M3 Perfect with an M3i Zero in place of the M3 Real. That covers just about everything, but I'd end up with an M3 Real sitting around. On top of that, I starting thinking about what I might gain from a different Slot-2.

Are there any Slot-2 adapters that provide RAM upgrade + an SD port? Like a combo M3 Lite and M3 GBA Expansion Pack. That way after I pick up a M3i I could have two SD cards, which might be overkill for games* but I can always fill them with video. I don't care about rumble support. As far as I can tell, anything that gives the ram upgrade either doesn't have expandable memory or isn't a GBA powerhouse. Is there something else I missed? Am I blind and missed something like the M3 Lite does upgrade the RAM or EZ-Flash has an SD port?

Since I really just wanted GBA gaming and DS is a perk, should I get a Micro or the badass Classic SP and a M3 Lite? I could get a DSi later for cheaper, and there may be an even better Slot-1 by then anyways.

Thanks a lot for any help you can provide. I've been combing through pages searching, but got to a point that I figured I should ask for help and keep searching while I wait. Oh, anywhere I said M3 you can insert SuperCard or EZ-Flash. I'm aware those companies are also decent, but M3 + Sakura seems like the top dog so I'd need at least a little convincing something else is more compatible/better.

*Is 8gb already more than I need for DS and GBA roms? I'm away from my xbox so I forget what standard sizes per game are.

Your price range is way to low for what you want.
To get GBA games running you need a flashcart and a slot-2 expansion (Like EZ 3in1 or the GBA expansion of the M3). The flashcart alone will be more than $20.

8GB should be enough (my GBA roms folder is a little more than 1GB and has 80 GBA roms)

So you have to have a combo Slot-1/Slot-2 to play GBA on a DSLite? You can't use older Slot-2's that were designed to work on GBA/SPs?

As far as price... I figured an M3 Perfect was $40, and most of the Slot-2 devices I was finding were $10-25 so I was just seeing if there was something I overlooked in the Slot-2 department. As I'm doing this to get free gaming, price isn't much of a deterrence. I can't remember where I found it, but I heard someone mention preorders of M3i Zeroes for $25. $80 total seems well within current prices, but I am willing to go higher since I'm trying to get more than what's offered by picking up a M3 Perfect and M3i Zero preorder.

I've pretty well confirmed to myself that there are no Slot-2 adapters that provide the RAM boost, an SD port, and GBA. Older models that work for GBA/SP don't have the RAM and all the newer models seem to put the SD port on the Slot-1.

This may be moot. I have a 16gb microSD, and it sounds like that may be plenty for GBA, DS, and a small spattering of vids.

Ya, I figured the M3i Zero was just an upgrade of the M3 Real specifically designed for the DSi, but would work on a DS Lite and would give me the extra copyright protection.. protection.

I think my dream of having two SD ports is impossible and unnecessary. I'll just have to get an M3 Perfect and when I upgrade the Slot-1 to M3i Zero I'll just have an M3 Real kicking it I suppose.

Thanks a lot for verifying for me!

Use? Games, emulation, movies, txt (like books, novels)
Price Range? hoping to find one no more than $30.00
Slot 1/2? Not really concerned with which slot.
Built in or expandable memory? Def expandable, doesnt matter what type.
GBA compatibility? im hoping for one
Special features? not concerned with special features, but def needs to be updatable through firmware/software for compatbility
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular: There are so many to choose from, I've been peaking at the ez flash vi so far, its cheaper than most, and seems to have a lot of the features i am looking at.

A lot of people will say to wait. But what are you gonna use it for? If it is for purely games, then just get an AceKard 2i. All it does is load games, and use cheats. Nothing else. Unless you are looking for some extra features, than I suggest you wait.

Use? Games and music
Price Range? The best
Slot 1/2? Slot 1
Built in or expandable memory? MicroSDHC
GBA compatibility? yes
Special features? Compatable with new DSi, SDHC, and compatibility with GBA expansion pak in old DS Lite

Sorry for being a newb, but I am looking for a good sturdy flashcart for my son. I have replaced so many games (he's 6) until I got a M3 DS Real. Now he has the new DSi. I am looking at DealExtreme.com to purchase but have gotten lost with all the options. Also, loading from the side where the flashcard would be inside the system would be a plus but not necessary.

Thanks again.

If you want games, music, DSi, SDHC, somewhat low price range then get the m3i zero coming very soon. It supports the sakura firmware which is gorgeous and it can play everything moonshell can but without needing to use it (sakura was actually originally made by the creator of moonshell). It's going to be about 25 dollars.

The DSi doesn't have a Slot-2, so I don't think you can load GBA games, at the moment. But something will be released about it. So no one will be left wondering how to load GBA Games. So basically, no GBA Games, or Slot-2. But the upside is that they finally have the NDS Web Browser as an application on the DSi xDD.

Games and music. Since pretty much all flashcarts use Moonshell as their music player, it doesn't really matter. But some flashcarts like the AceKard were programmed to use LMP (Lick's Media Player) which looks like an iPod clone. So far, I have only tested MP3 on it and am not sure if it can play other formats. But like always, you should get Moonshell for any flashcart.

The AceKard 2i is a nice flashcart. It does what ever is expected. Nothing special. I would recommend that.

I have the original bulky DS, and have an R4 card currently. lately i havent had time to read all the reviews and keep updated with all the sh!t on my r4 to get games to work. My R4 works great, but cant do newer games, I had to use YSMenu, and 2GB cards cant hold much.

I read the acekard 2i review, is there any difference between the regular and acekard 2i other than DSi compatibility? All i want to do is play DS games and some homebrew stuff. It looks like it should work good for the newest DS games?
