does the M3 Real have long term firmware update support (no r4 syndrome)?
does M3 real require a specific slot-2 flash for GBA games?

I suck so I can't really understand the first part... So if you mean, is the M3Real going to have long term firmware updates? Then... iunno. But we do know that it hasn't stopped production and at the time they are making the M3ReaLi.

And no. The M3Real doesn't require a specific Slot-2. but if you do get the GBA Expansion made by the M3 Team you get extra features such as Real Time Save in GBA Games and also cheats in GBA Games. But if you get any other Slot-2, you won't be getting the same features.

I'm trying to decide between a lower end cart (Acekard 2) and a higher end (CycloDS). I was curious if anyone knew if any carts other than the CylcoDS support in-game brightness control?

thanks!

I don't know that by head, but I don't think so.
The CycloDS is the best card out there, it has some features no other cards have.
I would highly suggest you buy it.

You can buy it from here:

I'm looking for a flashcard for my new DSi since I epically failed my DS case mod
Use: Romz primarily, a temporary solution until we can use old flash cards with the DSi (I wub my cyclo)
Price Range: $40 more or less. I'm very flexible on my price range.
Slot 1/2: Slot 1 for DSi
Built in or expandable memory: Expandable, SDHC necessary
Special features: RTS Walkthrough Softreset Cheats. Basically everything that my cyclo could do.
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular: Leaning toward AceKard 2i with AKAIO or maybe some type of card with M3 Sakura on it
Other: If I could get this from dealextreme it would be convenient.

Use? For Games
Price Range? Flexible
Slot 1/2? Slot 1
Built in or expandable memory? Micro SD
GBA compatibility? No
Special features? None
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular: None - want to hear any

---

I'm just a normal DS player who had an R4 for the DSLite. Now I am looking for a flash cart to use in my DSi. I don't know much about flash carts - I want to hear what people think is the best flash carts in terms of... that they work. Looking to buy one soon, so must hear really good reasons as why to wait for another one. Thanks.

Also, wondering where people bought their flash carts? Best places in terms of price, shipping, customer care.

Thanks!

Go with the AceKard2i.
It fits your needs, and it's often said to be the best DSi card out there from the moment.
You can buy it from here:

That's a good place to buy, excellent customer care.

Thanks!
AceKard 2i. All I can say... It seems you don't want any extra features and stuff, and the AceKard 2i does what is expected; load nds games and is usable on a DSi. Also compatible with DS Lite...

@ Sata ~ You advertising or something xDD. You always link to that site... But just am too lazy to find a good one. Nice siggy btw.

Where is the best place to buy (online) the Acekard 2 i? I want it to come with a micro SD card (1GB) and an SD card reader. Also, can any SD card reader work with the Acekard 2 i? Thanks is advance!

Thanks for the help. I was wondering though - the package comes with just the flash cart, correct? It doesn't come with any kind of USB SD card reader thing? I have my old R4 one so I guess it's okay without...

I was also thinking about buying from : http://www.leetmod.com/?gclid=CNKXl7L1-5oCFRpN5QodGlWWdg

Anyone ever bought from there? Good? Bad? It's $20.00 with free shipping...

criterion:
nice/easy 2 use gui
regular updates
gba ain't important
decent compatibility

less than a cyclo...aka not a cyclo

I was thinking ak2i or m3 ds real
but I'm open to any reccomendations(besides cyclo)

price range $20 - $35

Some help choosing between these two please.
Price: under $20, currently looking at AceKard 2 and the EDGE
Use:Mostly for games, and homebrew.

So I've looked around and narrowed my choices down to either the AceKard 2 or the EDGE. The EDGE's media playback feature is enticing, however game support is most important. I am afraid that the EDGE's firmware will not update anymore so some help on this would be appreciated.

No 1GB card option though, but I don't see why you couldn't go with a 2GB or a 4GB card. You don't pay much extra, and you get way more space with it.
Trust me, you'll regret it if you buy a 1GB microSD.

And yes, you can use any SD card reader with your AceKard2i.

Just the flashcart, no USB SD card reader thing.

Use? Games, potentially with other homebrew apps, too
Price Range? Pretty cheap, like, hopefully below $40. The cheaper the better, though.
Slot 1/2? Slot 1
Built in or expandable memory? Expandable memory, mostly because that'd bring the price down, right?
GBA compatibility? This would be nice, but GBA emulators are so easy to come by on other systems, so it doesn't really matter.
Special features? Save states, maybe. Again, this one doesn't really matter, but would be nice. Also, a fairly easy-to-use interface would be nice, but I could probably figure a complicated one out, if need be.
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular: I've been looking at R4s, mostly because they're the most well known, and really cheap, but would that make up for its death?

Also, is Real Hot Stuff a good place to order stuff from? Has anyone here had any bad experiences?

Avoid R4 like the plague!!!R4 is dead.
If you want something cheap, get an AceKard 2.Great UI and compatibility.

Forget about the R4, its team doesn't support it anymore
Acekard2.1 and EDGE are good budget carts. You can also get an iTouch and combine it with the M3 Sakura Firmware. If you really want the cheapest, get a TTDS but I wouldn't recommend that.
For the GBA games you need to buy an expansion slot2 cart (like EZ 3-in-1)
If you want save states you have to get the carts that are a bit more expensive like M3 Real, CycloDS and SCDS one V3 (the first two are the best cards out there, the third has a lot of function but a bad GUI IMO)
Read the reviews on this site if you're not sure.

I haven't heard bad things about RHS, but I never ordered there

Use? Games
Price Range? Cheap to moderate (I'd like a decent quality one but I'm not able to shell out top dollar for a high quality one. Maybe $30 or $40 max)
Slot 1/2? Slot 1 (it's a DSi)
Built in or expandable memory? MicroSDHC
GBA compatibility? Yes
Special features? NES, SNES emulation if it's not too much to ask
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular: I'm new to this stuff; I have no clue what I should be looking for.

Thanks in advance, guys.

Thanks; I figure I'll get a Supercard then. Maybe if the EZ Flash reaches that bright future I'll get one but I'd rather not buy something now in the hopes it gets better later.

As for the SNES emulation, is there any promising talk about it improving soon or is it looking somewhat hopeless?

There hasn't been an update for any SNES emulator on the DS in ages, so it's looking somewhat hopeless.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
