i'd like a game where u can control the pokemon on the top screen (with the D-pad) and use the A,B,X,Y buttons to use attacks, R-button to circle through more attacks (so u dont only have 4 attacks) and the touchscreen to change pokemon

this game would be number 1 on the ds list for atleast a year and no game could do better

The slow turn-based battles already turned me off. If they are going to do 3D, it should be action combat. Maybe remake the first Pokemon game with only the 150 originals and use something like Tales of Innocence combat engine. That would be heavenly...

Of course, that is just one pokemon fan's dream

Damn straight! the orignal 150 are still the best in my opinion, I guess it was okay in gold and silver, but now (D/P) it looks like they've just run out of ideas and are making run-of-the-mill pokemon, it's sad to see that some of the older pokemon have to be replaced to make way for some noobs

and is it just me or are legendary pokemon not quite what they used to be (Shaymin WTF!!??)

they are running out of ideas, look at probopass -.-

all of you that want an rts pokemon, hope for a spinoff, because theres no way theyre changing the current formula for the regular games. they sell like hotcakes the way they are. they arent gonna fix it if it aint broke. and imo, i would hate it if they changed pokemon, because the way it is now is great for competitive battling. changing it would screw everything up.

I'd prefer not to.

Pokemon is a great series of great games, but they've never really been cutting edge. I would doubt ever seeing 3D on the DS versions. For example, if you listen to the Pokemon sounds, you can tell the sound quality gets better as the generations go up, but they've never bothered to recreate or rerecord the sounds for the first two games. There's a huge difference in the sound quality between something like Uxie and Pikachu.
The battles in Diamond and Pearl are SLOW. When I first played Emerald, I thought, "Wow, was Pokemon Diamond so slow because I was using a Slot-1 card?" Nope! It's just slow. That'd need to be fixed first too.

No doubts though, if GameFreak walked up to Nintendo and said, "We need a bigger cartridge because we need to hold 493 3D models", they'd come up with something.

well, I don't think it'd be good for them to ever change the battle system of the games...that's what pokemon (the games) has been notorious for...

now, if they did beef the graphics or something, then that'd be cool. But a total revamp would kill it.

a few fans wet dreams cannot compensate for the masses (unfortunately)

what about pokemon plantium!!! its 3d!

...I think you are mistaken
battles are 2D world is 3D
it was already like that in D/P
really a waste actually, the 3D world only took down the quality.
if they just would've upgraded the 2D world graphics from R/S/E it would've been much better.

I am almost positive that battles where you control the pokemon like an action rpg would even happen. If you guys even thought about what you said you would remember that in the game you are the pokemon trainer telling the pokemon what to do not doing it for them. Also they should have made an option to turn of move animations in D/P but didn't which is sad. And to whoever said they should implement an ATB system, that wouldn't make sense because ATB used for group battles like in Final Fantasy games, it wouldn't make much sense to use it in a game using mostly 1-on-1 and would also make the go so much less fair since if it did this a fast pokemon would likely always win.

not really.
fast pokemon tend to have crappy defense stats.

and right now, the speed stat is quite useless.
it has no use in either defense or offense, it's just to determine who goes first and if you can run from a wild pokemon.
ATB would actually make speed somewhat usefull as an offensive stat.

however it could cause some balance problems.
imagine a pokemon with fly and a speed 2x that of it's opponent.

you are joking, right? pokemon cannot be competitive without a speed stat! without speed how would they determine who goes first? it would just be a toss up. and this makes absolutely no sense, and would take all strategy out of the game. imagine you have infernape out against your opponents empoleon. with speed, it is obvious ape would outspeed empoleon and ko with close combat, so logically, your opponent would switch in something that resists close combat and either walls infernape or is (wait for it) faster than him! and can ko him. now picture this scenario without a speed stat. you've got infernape and they've got empoleon. whoever is going first is a toss up, so whatever, you both might as well stay in and see who goes first and ohko's the other (with either close combat or surf). that's not strategy, that's pure luck! utter nonsense.

yeah i agree. spinoff game with atb or something sounds interesting. changing the classic pokemon formula = no.
