*she.
Also, I've heard rumblings about GW maybe patching that on their next release, so we'll see. It's a pretty wide-reaching patch though. I'm not sure if it has any negative effects yet as I just mapped it out and patched it earlier.

I've got ideas for how to do a region change without any semblance of CFW on two fresh 9.2 systems with xorpads, too. The idea's kind of inspired by how gateway's downgrades work. The issue is that the tools for N3DS just don't exist yet. Watch this space, I guess?

those rumblings are probably from me once or twice saying that i emailed them a while ago seeing if they would patch it (unless you heard from someone else?)
thanks :) (sorry about the he)

Well sonyUSA also hinted something along the lines that the surprise feature gateway mentioned *might* be region changing stuff, suppose it just depends on what route they take, patching the checks or just allowing people to supply their own donor files + a region change downgrade pack style route

Using their already-in-place system for downgrades to do region changing would make sense, and be super easy for them to implement.

How would they deal with donor Secure_Info files though? They can't patch signature checks for SysNand, which is what the downgrade works on. And asking customers to get a file from a second 3DS sounds like a big ask.

Preset donor files (which would likely be banned pretty much immediately from all online stuff), or allow the user to provide their own files.....I doubt they will be supporting sysnand region changing really though, too much room for error IMO, probably just as much as downgrading I suppose, but for them I don't think they care about changing sysnand as they really just care about gateway specific features rather than sysnand stuff that makes no difference to how their system works

Just wanted to mention: New 3DS shares SecureInfo_A format with old 3DS.
Awesome! I know this was expected but it's still great to get confirmation.

Edit: speaking of:
you can tidy up the nand by deleting the system fw titles that do not exist in your new region that you changed to. - i made a small python tool to check and find the differences, i could also make it automatically delete them for you, but that would only really work for me on mac
Any chance you'll share this? I'm on a mac as well.

So then someone could buy a 2nd hand 3DS, take the SecureInfo_A format, and put it on the N3DS? That's cool that it doesn't have to be a N3DS to do the region changing. Time to sell the donor I had ready for it then!

i have a collection of all 6 regions - but i don't think many people are going to share theirs (me included) :)

Whats about 2DS ? I don't know what's the current situation with those but if they are exploitable it might be a good cheap alternative to get a SecureInfo_A to swap an N3DS.

So to be clear, I'm not fully up to speed after going through the last few pages.

What is important in order to be able to do a region swap is a valid SecureInfo_A from a 3DS (new or old) from the region you want?

So you can swap a US old 3DS with a JPN N3DS, in theory?

the idea of getting japanese game updates without searching for them in iso sites is pretty appealing...

sure, i can get updates for things myself, usa/eur/jpn with my 3dses, but i understand that it is a lot faster to simply get them online, really :)
there is a nice baidu folder with like all the jp updates

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
