PlayStation VR GDC press event - March 15th

ps-vr.png

Sony have announced that they'll hold a press event focusing solely on the PlayStation VR at the 2016 Game Developers Conference.

The press only conference will be held at 2:00 PM (PT) on March 15th and will be followed by hands-on demos.

It is highly likely that the price and release date of the PlayStation VR will be revealed at this conference now that the announcements have been made for the Oculus Rift ($599) and HTC Vive ($799).

We will keep you updated here with information as it's announced including live streaming feeds of the conference itself.

Are you excited for PlayStation VR? What price point are you expecting the headset to retail for? Let us know below.

Too expensive for me, and likely to only work on PS4 (maybe PS5?).

I don't really see this as competing against PC VR.

Not into VR so its not for me. It doesn't matter to me. I am fine with tradition Console because it is more fun with controllers than with a VR helmet.

I only care about VR for the porn potential. Imagine the possibilities.

That said, I'm not sure PSVR is going to do very well if it's locked to the PS4. Not to mention it's probably going to be expensive.
Lately I just feel like VR as a technology isn't quite ready for the market yet.

No way this is going be under $400, but I don't think it is going be any higher than $600.

The way you wrote that, you make it seem you can't use VR with controllers...

I doubt it will be more expensive than 500$/€
If they make the price as high as their competition then the PSVR will die faster than you can say Playstation Move.
Especially since the competition is on PC a much more open platform where more people can independently create VR games.

Exactly. I mean, it's bad enough that there's no VR pr0n going to happen on the PS4.
I'm curious how the PSVR hardware will be connected to the PS4... if it's not using that stupid proprietary port that the PS4 Camera is plugged into (though I'm certain it is), it might not be totally impossible to make it compatible with a PC. That would make it much more valuable.

I'll be interested if it isn't PS4 exclusive. There's a chance it wont be (since Sony isn't just a game company), however I wont hold my breath. If I use VR, I want the optimal experience and that definitely wont be on a console anytime soon.

I have to imagine Sony will be one of the more consumer friendly retailers for VR headsets though. I just can't see them trying to sell $600 VR headsets to use on their $500 console. It would crash and burn just like the Move did. Even if it ISN'T PS4 exclusive. But I guess only time will tell.

I hope sony nails this, they make TVs and audio equipment already. If anyone, they can nail the pricing reasonably with quality. Heck the vita was a dream machine was quite the dream machine, and I can see them putting those OLED screens to good use.

Downside is they are terrible with their products living long without a custom nuclear weapon's arm case to protect them in.

VR helmet doesn't replace a controller. I use both.

Edit: I see you already addressed this sort of comment. Ignore this. lol

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
