What is newpoketext?

ok... I found that newpoketext requires a couple of tricks to get it working with HGSS.
Heres how to get it to work:

1. Extract game using dslazy/whatever
2. In the extracted folders change the folder data to root
3. Copy "7" which is in a/0/2/ to msgdata
4. Rename 7 to msg.narc
5. Rename entire folder holding extracted files to tmp_romname (romname being the name of the rom

)
6. Startup newpoketext and enter romname
7. Type getall full.xml
8. Look for area you want and find
9. Go to newpoketext and type get NUMBER NUMBER.xml
10. In the new file switch "change=false" to "change=true"
11. Edit text
12. in new poketext type patch NUMBER.xml
13. Put the msg.narc in a/0/2/ and name it 7
14. Recompile using dslazy/whatever.
15. Exit everything and be happy.

Thats how I made it work.

Seeing as you got it working, it would be nifty if you could post a .ips patch for the rest of us...

It's a program used to extract the text from Pokemon and make it an easily editable file. You also use it to re-insert that text back into the game. Any idiot with a tutorial and the smallest knowledge of command prompt can use it.

Well, the point of this I think was to use Google Translate to at least get a rough base so we can use Kazo's patch and have a basic version... If you could, can you try a few different online Japanese -> English translators and find the one that seems to work the best?

Whenever I try to use it, it crashes when i try to do "getall full.xml" so I can't go forward from there, anyways... Was I supposed to not have patched it with Kazo's translation beforehand?

Time and again; It's ALL about the money.
They KNOW people import titles, they want this even if they say otherwise; they'll just release the countries' native language later on, sometimes not until AFTER the game start seeing sales level out, and making the import buyers buy the game AGAIN, just so they can understand it(providing the game doesn't end up changing in the process).

I'll make a patch so people don't have to mess around and rename the 7 to a .narc, and provide the utilities so people can attempt to translate the game themselves within the next couple of days.

cool. Can you explain how you got it to work though? I couldn't get the newpoketext to even do anything... I had to dump it with dslazy and if I tried to do anything with newpoketext.exe, it just crashed... mybe it doesn't work with windows 7 or I have a messed up version?

Yeah I'm workin on making a quick patch so people can just quickly edit it as they feel to, rather than going through the files to copy the 7 file and renaming it to msgdata.narc, and when I post a topic I'll give a tutorial, cause its reaaally easy to do thanks to loadingNOW

You can do that but make it so it works only on this google patch...
We don't need more than one translators, let alone 20 of them...

Lol true. It would be kind of hard to do that with a patch though...I'll just say some things to deter people from trying to all do different translations, but to try and work together.
