So, I have a modded ntsc-u ps2 that is able to play ps2 games from any region and ntsc ps1 games. But when I tried ps1 pal games, the screen got displaced and the game ran at 60hz instead of 50hz. My chip is some kind of matrix infinity clone at v1.89 that came installed on the console. My question is: is there any way to force the system to use the pal screen format when playing those games? Or is there a way to convert them to ntsc?

Btw, when playing pal ps2 games, the screen does "go pal", running at 50hz. So no problem with these.

If no one can help me, is there a ps2 dedicated forum that I can ask this?
I just posted here because I didn't know where I could ask it. Since gbatemp is more focused on handhelds and nintendo consoles, I'm pretty sure I won't find the answer any time soon...

Thanks for the help! I'll try these as soon as my tv comes back from techinical assistance.

Oh and disabling my modchip would be useless - I do not own ANY legal game :P (by legal I mean not pirated/downloaded)
These kind of games used to be pretty expensive around here. They are affordable nowadays though (that is, if you happen to find one for sale).

FINALLY the tv is back. And those suggestions didn't seem to work. When I launch Ps1VModeNeg through ULaunchElf it, it simply goes back to the PS2 browser... Honestly, I'm almost giving up.

You might have to patch the ISO and burn a new copy to get it to work. I had to do that with a game once a long time ago, but don't remember the exact process.

Unless it is a game that only ever came out in PAL, you might be better off just tracking it down as an NTSC version.

About patching... I already tried it with Earthworm Jim 2, but it didn't work. And at the matrix settings I can only change the color system for ps2 games.

Well, I'm giving up on this. The only pal game I wanted to play so far was EWJ2. I can live without it =)
I was mostly curious about this behavior. I mean, if ps2 games work ok, why not ps1 as well?

Thanks everybody for the awesome help!!

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare

@Psionic Roshambo, I have a rom of the ds version of impossible mission
