OLED HWFLY Success! Be careful with that LCD Connector, How I replaced mine.

I've finally managed to get my OLED Switch modded and up and running.
I'm not really going to be going over the modchip installation as it's covered quite well in Sthetix's video here

The thing I'd recommend doing differently is that you don't need to cut the emmc shielding. You can just slide it in if you get the right angle like so.

I'd also recommend using the alt 3.3v cap here (bottom of the cap)
Those Oled kits are a rip off by the way, just get a lite chip, dat0 adapter and wire it up. Don't spend an extra $40 on a flex cable unless you don't mind burning money.

The main point of this post is BE FUCKIN CAREFUL WITH THAT LCD CONNECTOR
If it's not perfectly aligned you'll likely bend the pins internally and / or the white tab will pop right off when you try to secure it.
Once that happens, it's GG and you'll need to replace the lcd connector.
For me, replacing the lcd connector was significantly more difficult then the mod chip install.
Here's how I approached it.
350c hot air to remove the original connector. Make sure to insulate as much as you can that's not the connector as you can especially the port that the sd card board plugs into.
I wicked the pads clean and tinned with low melt solder paste.
Flux it up, align the new connector and hit it with hot air at 175 - 200c medium airflow.
Once the solder gets molten bump up your airflow to max and press the new connector in the center with your tweasers.
You should see the legs of the new connector get tinned from the solder on the pads.
Remove the air when you feel good about it and keep holding the connector with your tweasers for a bit longer than your used to as low melt solder stays molten longer.
Test each pin to make sure you have a good connection with your tweasers, If it's not connected you'll be able to feel it.
I went back and added some proper leaded solder with my Jtip to each pin individually. It's not very that difficult when the connector is properly locked in.
That did the trick for me.

Ideally, don't fuck up you LCD connector but....
If you do it's manageable with a cheap hot air station, low melt solder, good flux, tweasers, scope, patience, and a steady hand.
Super stoked to have pulled this off. Was pretty bummed when that connector went belly up on me but I'm happy with the learning experience.

I did the lcd connector oopsie a while ago. Theres zero chance you can ever straighten out those pins. I just kind of laughed and said "i guess its time to practice replacing fpc connectors".

You can source from donor board or just outright replace those fpc connectors via heating the underside of the board (if low melt solder isn't used) to avoid melting plastic connectors. Low melt solder is expensive, but makes connector replacement a cakewalk using either method as you use much lower temperature and have less risk of melting plastic.

This was my first attempt at doing the lcd FPC connector. I didn't even melt the Nand connector or the fan connector so I call it a success. All i had to do was touch that one larger solder ball w/ the iron and it was good to go. You can check your connections w/ fine tweezers, you can push on each leg gently and see if they're soldered to the board, or just loosely floating there.

yeah I just checked it out
I am amazed seeing that just a couple months ago you couldn't even buy an RCM dongle on there

I saw one seller that had 3 versions and the core and lite were like 150 but then it said Oled model
$90 , hmm I wonder if that is just the flex cable and no chip because why would they sell an Oled version chip for that much cheaper
that seller had a bunch of good reviews but none were for the Oled all reviews were for core and lite
and all the other sellers I saw had the Oled flex cable selling for like $40
so it is either a really good deal on an Oled chip or a really big rip off on just the flex cable
but their prices on the core and lite seem to be in line with other sellers are charging for core and lite
I am just so glad I got my SX lite day one and paid less than 1/3 rd of those prices
now everything has gone sky high and not even just mod chips
I should have stocked upon more cheap electronic from ali
now shipping is ridiculous on everything and prices have gone up on everything
I wonder how this evergrande collapse will affect things

The flex cable replaces all the messy rewiring? Or where exactly goes that flex cable?

Unfortunately the underside method isn't applicable on the OLEDS. if you look at the board, the EMMC is directly underneath this fpc connector.

That $90 listing you speak of actually is the new Oled revision that's designed for these Oleds.
Don't get the overpriced ones that are just lite chips with v3 cables.

Oh wow, I had no idea they actually developed a version soely for the OLED. $90 seems reasonable.

Wow. Not sure I want to try this. I don't have any solder mask or that tape stuff, and I just had a hell of a time replacing the left analog stick on my Gamepad Pro. Soldering wasn't the issue though... desoldering the old one was hell. My 3DS hard mods (o3ds and N3ds) are currently the most complicated soldering I've done. Took me this long to get an OLED, and I don't want to ruin it.

EDIT: LoL... this didn't age well. I like learning difficult things, and although far from rich, I'm not hurting for money with my current lifestyle, so 1 destroyed mod chip and 1 destroyed OLED Switch later, I'm currently a proud owner of a self-modded OLED. Only adding the edit here because someone new *just 'liked' this post...

Also be aware that without an sd with appropriate payload, you will likely get a black screen. Most if not all Hwflys don't show the nosd screen on boot up. You'll need hekate or atmos as payload.bin on the root
