So I need a small favour from someone who's not yet registered a NNID on their 3DS...

Basically, I ended up using my main NNID on my 3DS and a temporary one on my Wii U (for reasons I'll not go into here). I've now decided that I want to delete the temporary one on my Wii U and just use my main NNID on both systems. The problem here is that only options on the Wii U are;
  • Delete the user account and leave the NNID intact
  • Delete the user account and the NNID
There's no option to just delete the NNID, which would unfortunately mean I'd lose all my savegames.

The 3DS however does have this option. You can delete a NNID without affecting the system/account/savegames. This also apparently deletes the NNID from any other systems you've registered it to, so in my case, the Wii U. Supposedly, some time after deleting the NNID the Wii U will throw up an error that it's been deleted and you can relink a different ID to the machine.

This is where I require assistance. I need someone with a 3DS to set up my NNID on their system, then immediately delete it. This should delete the NNID from Nintendo's servers and also my Wii U. Like I said, it's only a temporary account - there's no info on there that's relevant/important, nor is there any saved CC info or purchases; temporary account, temporary email address and made-up user details.

I'd do it myself but as my 3DS currently has the NNID I want to keep, I'd have to delete it in order to set up the temporary one for deletion. I had the bright idea that maybe I could do it myself in sysNAND, but unfortunately I've downgraded my sysNAND's MSET, so there's no option to even set up a NNID.

If anyone can help me out with this I'd greatly appreciate it. Get in touch and I'll PM the account details...

I know it's a long-winded way of doing it, but it's the only thing I can think of that might work.

Just out of curiosity, what's your theory for it not working? I'm only guessing that it'll work based on info provided by Nintendo (http://en-americas-support.nintendo...id/2224/~/how-to-delete-a-nintendo-network-id).

Looking at all the steps on that page (as well as the notes), the following points seem to suggest that it might work;
  • Deleting a Nintendo Network ID will also delete the following information associated to the account: Nintendo eShop activity and balance, Friend List, Miiverse activity, and registered e-mail address.
  • If the Nintendo Network ID has also been linked to a Wii U, deleting the account will delete the above information from both systems.
To me, this implies that only the stuff I've highlighted in red will be deleted and savegames etc will not be touched.

Again, I know I'm potentially clutching at straws here and it may not work, but if for some reason it does work, at least we'll have a sure fire method for anyone wanting to unlink delete a NNID on their Wii U whilst retaining savegames.

Right, so I ended up doing this the hard way. Upgraded my sysNAND MSET, linked my NNID then deleted it (and then proceeded to hit my head against the wall trying to remember how to downgrade again for the ROP exploit!).

Anyhoo, I can confirm it works. My temporary NNID has been deleted and my Wii U is unlinked, giving me the option to link a new/existing NNID. Also, my Super Mario Maker savegame still exists...

I've posted a guide in the Wii U subforum on exactly what I did to make this work.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
