no need for such hostility just about all my friends have a wii but dont know what to do to play burned games like i do so they all want me to do it for them..
and im not the greatest at it myself, the last time i did this was about a year ago..So i need a bit of help remembering and figuring things out..
BTW i heart the THC as well- nice avatar-personal pic
haha jk
its best to just update via nintendo if they dont have 4.2 and cioscorp installed.

well here is the thing he went and tried to do it himself hence the "they dont all know how to do it" part lol
and he totally did something wrong but i dont know what it is, it still loads to the system menu fine but it wont play any games real or backup.. its got a working homebrew channel near as i can tell..and the worst part of all is that its already 4.2

Hey guys,

before going through the whole softmod thing, i just wanna ask a few questions relating to compatability issues mainly. I intend to run everything off a 1TB USB HDD as i do with my ps2, just for the lasers sake. I've read that even with the mod, many GC backups won't run using the GCLoaders, such as baten kaitos 2(dam never got PAL release!). So here are the Q's:

1. Do Wii backups being run off HDD have compatability issues? (just an example: mario galaxy runs fine, but mario galaxy 2 freezes at save screen. anything like that exists? Do images/iso's need patching to counter AP measures embedded in the game?)

2. I have a PAL Wii

let's say i have some nice iso's of ntsc-j, ntsc-us Wii games on the HDD. Do these images need to be modified/patched to PAL before they run?

3. Similarly, is there a way this mod can deal with running foreign hardware(ex. black wiimotes/nc from jp) on a native PAL Wii?

Thanks fellas.

btw, top work on the softmod guide!

1. some games yes and some games no take a look at this compatibility guide
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php?tit...e_Compatibility

2. if you use USB loader gx then you can select an option in the games settings to make a pal o ntsc run on a ntsc or pal

3.not sure about that 1 maybe some1 else can help

@boof222
3.not sure about that 1 maybe some1 else can help

yes you could. we tried this already. my friend has a US wii and used his wiimote in my JAP wii...though i do not know if his wii was originally US or only modified to US...

i think its just a matter of synchronization between the controller and the wii itself.

Silly question here... With NeoGamma R7, the needed IOS and maybe Preloader (to skip update checks on the menu and stuff like that), are ISO patchers like WiiBrickBlocker and Wii Region Frii virtually useless?

i have a 3.2U wii... korean converted to US...

i just wanna ask if

1. is it safe to assume that all tutorials that say "this only works for USA and Eur Wiis, not Jap or Kor" will work for me? although recently, i think all of them are now saying "this works for ALL Wiis", but i'm just curious in case i run into it again..

2. there's a way to know if it's softmod or hardmodded without opening it up? it was a gift but the one who gave it to me doesn't know anything about wiis (she just bought the cheapest)

3. may it be softmod or hardmod, even if i don't know, is it safe and necessary to upgrade to 4.1U? or even 4.2? ... i just feel weird that a lot are now upgrading to new versions, and be able to play backups and use backup loaders, and both my wii and psp are left behind on old versions....

it plays all my pirated games.. but not all backups (tried experimenting at any speed... i only use verbatim.. to no avail..) and games work on USB loader cfg40, so far... and.. yea, i'm so a noob that i don't even know what version of HBC it has, do i need a new one?..... and, i was also successful in installing and playing ocarina of time, majora's mask, internet channel, and world of goo...

so lastly,

4. what will i benefit from upgrading to 4.1/4.2? also, what guide should i use....

thanks....

If you try to load the system menu through preloader but it gives you the corrupted file message
Thanks erikk1, that's exactly what is happening.

you probably have to es_identify patch your system menu ios. Dop IOS can do that.
My system menu is v385.
I'm sorry, but i don't know what is "Dop IOS", can you explain it, please?
QUOTE(erikk1 @ Oct 13 2009, 10:22 AM)
v385 is 3.4 it seems. I don't know which ios 3.4 uses, but you should be able to find that with google or something

Dop IOS is an application you can run from homebrew to redownload a IOS and apply the needed patches to the ios. You will have to google/search on these forums to find more info. Or hope someone else is gonna spoon feed it to you

Hi erikk1, it's me, THE NOOB, again.

From what i've searched, my SM uses IOS 50, but my wii works offline so, from what i read, i can't use Dop IOS.

Is there an offline way to es_identify IOS 50?

Please, forgive me if i misunderstood something.

Thanks again.

If I install DVDX v2- I can still watch movies from my HDD? I did that on my old softmodded Wii. DVDX just adds the watch DVD movies ability? (Asking because the Homebrew apps that needs DVDX aren't updated to work with the new DVDX v2 yet.)

Since I can't find the other answers I seek, all I wonder now is whether or not I can cancel the Homebrew installation if I run the Hackmii Installer and sees that bootmii on boot2 can't be installed?
Oh well. Guess I'll let someone else do it for me if I am still unsure on the things I'm concerned about when this weekend is over.

I need to update my M3 simply firmware so I can play kingdom of hearts. Is it possible to do with the least amount of fuss possible? (Its running on YSmenu, but updating that takes AGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES)

I don't know for M3 Simply, but anyway, wrong board, go here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showforum=40

Here's a noob question: is there any way to use one of the gamecube backup launchers to save gamecube save files on the sd card or internal memory? As in, not use a gamecube memory card?

Thanks!

I was wondering what updating my wii will do. I have many channels that were formed by .WAD files, the homebrew channel, and other things. To play games like The Conduit and almost every newer game, I need to update my Wii though. If I update my wii, will I lose the homebrew channel? And if so, how do I get to play these games without updating? At the moment I have Wii verision 3.3U if that matters.

gigasguy, updating through normal means WILL make you lose the homebrew channel and I think everything installed through homebrew. So, what you need to do is to update through other means (aka more homebrew). I recommend this guide for that, though there are many others on this forum.

Thanks. I updated my Wii to version 4.2U, but was surprised to see it didn't get rid of ANYTHING. Perhaps I already did used something to prevent it from happening, but I'm not sure. Anyway, thanks for the help.
