The Legend of Zelda is not a goddamn RPG. When do people learn this? It's an ACTION ADVENTURE game.

Anyway, for the DS, probably Pokemon. Say what you may about the Pocket Monsters but they're among the best handheld RPGs ever.

More specifically, I've been playing Dragon Quest IV the past day or so, so I'll say that.

Also, off the top of my head, Disgaea, FFIII, FFIV, and if you want rogue-likes too, Izuna, Izuna 2 and the Pokemon: Mysterious Dungeon series.
