The only game they gave us was Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? rather than a popular game such as, Mario 64 DS which I'd have preferred since I've always been interested in checking out the DS version but on a bigger device (nor do I want to boot up my 64 to play the cart).

Screens of the game from the Miiverse community:

This is coming from the guys who said N64 VC was coming two years ago.

Brain Training was even a free download in most regions for a while.

Do they not want our money?

And then, there's also the Nintendo TVii icon which does freaking nothing for the European customers and if they're never going to add it then just remove it.

You guys are lucky to even get that, we in the US got screwed over, this proves that Nintendo doesn't give a damn about the Virtual Console, at all.

Look what that did, that was pretty much the only VC game to get as much hype as it did, then it just, well, died down...N64 games haven't been release yet, and please people, don't bring up the fact the Wii had them, for the record, the Wii only had 21 N64 VC releases, yes, 21 games released within six years...sad.

This is why I hacked my Wii and Wii U's vWii mode.

I'd like to point out there was nothing really going for the Wii upon release (same as the WiiU but it's picked up a little now)
And there was no eShop when the 3DS released.

Nintendo really likes to throw stuff out there and not do anything with it until sales die down and announce a load of things that should've been there from the start.

Right, but it's been two years, and compared to the Wii's VC, the Wii had a more robust library in two years than the Wii U has had in the same amount of time. I pretty much give up on it, I've been using RetroArch Wii and I can run way more games than the Wii U will ever have in terms of Super Nintendo, Genesis/Megadrive, NES, GBA, etc. If they want me to support their VC catalog, then they need to step up their game and actually be more consistent in their releases.

Nintendo has messed up with Virtual Console for sure. I still don't understand why Wii Virtual Console games didn't carry over to the Wii U Virtual Console library. No Nintendo 64 games, no Sega Mega Drive games... Lots of things for the Wii not natively available for Wii U.

If Brain Training was a proper DS Virtual Console title I'd be impressed, but they essentially split the Wii U GamePad screen in half, for which that particular game works well (since you'd be holding a DS sideways to play it originally, which was awkward). What I want to see is a DS game that, much like on the DS, has the top screen (TV) and bottom screen (GamePad) separately. It'd make some games really weird to play (think Sonic Rush), but let's be honest most DS games that would be fit for Wii U are puzzle games, visual novels, etc.

And where is GameCube Virtual Console?

I still think that Nintendo should learn from Sony MUCH more.
Nintendo: 5€ for NES game and haven't encountered any sale, only for specific console so had to be rebought for handheld, from Wii to Wii U you need to pay upgrade fee or play worse version which requires booting up Wii mode.
Playstation: 5€ for PSX game (much newer game) with regular sales down to 1.3€, can be played with PS3, PSP and Vita connected to same account, cloud saving to move save files between platforms. For some reason isn't available for PS4 yet, but I would imagine them being free if they are bought in the past.

This is age where everyone plays with emulators starting from mobile devices and browsers, so you would think that Nintendo would fight againts that by providing better service with wide library. Even if they are strongly againts emulators they still do exist so it just seems odd they have decided to simply fall back from Virtual console.

Back to DS Virtual Console, wouldn't it be much more viable to sell those at 3DS eShop? Some DS titles are still relevant because of backwards compatibility of that system and there wouldn't be need for emulation when games run natively and DSiWare games are still sold as well.

Well they could implement many scaling methods in there. DS screen isn't that big so having them side-by-side without flipping would also work, even though it wouldn't be exact 1:1 upscale.
When you said "proper DS Virtual Console title" it did make me think that Brain Training isn't that demanding DS title isn't it? Could it be that was only game they got to work without problems?

That'd be stupid if they made it that way. I don't think any DS game would look good with both screens side by side. Just watch some YouTube videos which show DS games in exactly that layout, it's confusing:

You can hardly call it demanding... It's mostly raster graphics and menus. A dedicated fan could whip out a Brain Training "engine" in HTML5 and JavaScript in no time, just like the one for fan-made Ace Attorney games. Speaking of, I think all of the Ace Attorney games would fit the Wii U perfectly. Those are games where most of the action happens on the top screen and you only make selections on the lower screen. The first three games in the series were ported to WiiWare, so it'd be cool to have them on Wii U. I'm currently playing through the first AAI game on my 3DS and there are times when I just want to sit down on the couch and play. I don't think many other DS games would fit the Wii U Virtual Console, though.

In my opinion, all the N64 games released on the Wii's VC are pretty much the good ones (apart from Cruisin' USA). Rareware games like Banjo Kazooie and Goldeneye would've been awesome but I'm still happy that they put Paper Mario on the VC shop.

For me, the big question is that after 8 years, why is there STILL no SNES Starfox or Yoshi's Island (I refuse to believe that the GBA version is the only thing they'll offer. Screw that Yoshi voice).

I still don't understand why Nintendo hasn't migrated most of VC on Wii to Wii U. It's ridiculous for Wii U owner to go into vWii to play VC. Games like Bomberman 94 is on Wii VC but not on Wii U.

They also promised GCN VC at the time of Wii U launch. Fast forward now and no news about it. Where is cloud save and cross buy (Sony has them for PS1 titles, excluding a few like Spyro)?

Nintendo SHOULD have the advantage in retro gaming, given that they are not limited to in-house system like Sony, yet they are not taking advantage of it.

No, Nintendo does, they just don't know their own ass from a hole in the ground. This why unofficial emulation will always be superior on the Wii.

Don't give a shit about using VC to sell retro games

But complain when people use emulators to play games not on VC
