Ehm no? The N64 was the most advanced console in its generation IIRC.

"More advanced" in what way? Main problem it had was that it was stuck using carts when the other machines embraced the new CD format, one of the reasons it lost Square for that gen.
I mean in graphics and stuff. It was way better than ps1.

Nintendo was always behind because competitors released their consoles first. Genesis was 2 years before SNES, and PS1 was like 3 before the N64. These consoles were, however, much more powerful when they did come out. Gamecube was in the middle of its generation, slightly behind Xbox and slightly ahead of PS2 (only about 100-200 MHz of difference). It wasn't until this generation that Nintendo fell so far behind, in terms of power and the online play. They've moved on to another market, unfortunately (at least hardware-wise).
I completely agree. The GameCube was better than PS2 when it came to graphics, but in the end the GameCube, PS2 and Xbox were pretty close. The Wii, hardware-wise, seems like an entirely different generation. Of course it's much more powerful than the Xbox, PS2 or GameCube (if you claim otherwhise you're simply bashing the Wii), but developers don't seem to use that power all that well. This is also because the developers of engines which can really get the most out of a system (like Epic Games) show no interest in the Wii.

I am glad Nintendo decided to do something different, otherwhise we wouldn't be playing on a Nintendo console these days. But their new strategy has some disadvantages. They've always been family friendly, but maybe they're just too family friendly these days...

If your main reason for disliking a console is because it's not on the same level as other consoles when it comes to graphics as opposed to its the library of games.

You are the cancer killing video games.

Because it's outrageous to compare a current gen console to other current gen consoles. Graphics was only one point. You clearly pranced around shitty online capabilities and a number of issues bogging down the Wii.

So instead of calling me "spoiled" and "the cancer that's killing video games", maybe you should start accepting the facts and act more mature.

If you want more, go see what Beatrice said.

After having both a wii and ps3, the ps3 is the powerhouse but honestle i prefer the wii's gameplay who cares if the graphics are not as good, I just want gameplay and nintendo gives that to me so Im happy.Screw graphics, I can sit a whole day playing an 8 bit game as long as it has good gameplay, graphics are an add on but I prefer gameplay. The wii's library is also more appealing to me, Red Steel,Mario, Zelda, Metroid,Crystal Chronicles, Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Resident Evil with the Wii's aiming control, Call of Duty(Wii Version>>>ALl others), Warioware, Bleach. Yeah I like the wii and its the console that gets the most hours of gameplay at home

all systems are great

You're absolutely correct and I agree with you. The point I'm trying to make though is that all the hate Nintendo is getting is unwarranted.

People are crying and whining about Nintendo "changing" and "abandoning gamers" when in reality Nintendo hasn't changed, the games are still the same and the one who is being abandoned is Nintendo by so called "hardcore" gamers (that term is fucking gay by the way).

I own a Gamecube and a PS2. I'm currently working on getting a Wii and PS3.

Yes I do and what's your point. Nintendo has always been about using old tech.

Or do I have to remind you how long it to them to let go of cartridges?

I'm kinda having a fun chuckle at the use of 'old school' in this discussion.

Sorry kids, in my use of the parlance, 'old school' denotes someone that knew 'playing' meant climbing trees and playing in streams.

I predate the colour tv let alone every last gaming doodad.

My only beef with Nintendo, is they simply don't have any self evident desire to curb all the rampant schlock going on sale wearing the Nintendo label.

Remember the DS title Paint DS? That could have been such an incredibly handy doodad of a title. But no, all they did was make it possible to colour in an extremely small assortment of random images.
It was the defining moment for me in my early use of the Nintendo DS lite I had at the time. It was clear Nintendo was ok with making great hardware, but was more than willing to prostitute it's name on any miserable excuse cartridge and to hell with giving the public anything worthy at all for the games.

If you encounter GOOD games for your Nintendo hand held, great, consider yourself lucky. I have a good few great titles myself.
But never in all of the last 10 years of active use of my internet capacities, have I felt such utter lack of remorse in downloading software first in order to confirm it is even worth having for free let alone pay anything at all for it.

I have no games for my PS3, but I didn't buy it as a gaming machine. Still I can acknowledge that the major consoles have some nice looking titles.
I am not so sure the Wii though, has any great sum of great games. They don't appear to be the same Nintendo I knew in the 90s.
They make better hardware these days, but I don't think their games have kept pace with their past performances.

You've obviously ignored all the valid, quite objective opinions shown in this thread. Sound like quite the fanboy to me.

Maybe their abandonment is justified? The term "hardcore" meaning strongly dedicated. What if Nintendo isn't providing them with what they want? It's hard to stay dedicated to one system when the others offer so much more of what they want. Your talk about the games being the same is irrelevant, if someone can get more out of other games, what reason do they have to keep playing the same ones?

What's your definition of "tech"? What about d-pads, joysticks, rumble? Nintendo have always been one to innovate, their policy seems to be: When there is an idea for a game that cannot be created on the current console, make a new one.

They still haven't let go of cartridges, they seem to be working pretty well for the DS.
Oh and, his/her point was that the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2, just in-case you didn't notice. The implications of which are stating that you're ranting about how Nintendo have been behind on "tech" when last generation they were up to par. Notice how well that worked out for them?
EDIT: Well, the storage system wasn't exactly up to par. One of (IMO) Nintendo's mistakes.

On a side-note. Nintendo have made plenty of mistakes, and probably still will.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
