Nintendo has revealed new details about its online service. For starters, Nintendo will be introducing cloud backups for saved game data. More details about the save data cloud backups will come before the online service launches in September. Nintendo also announced that 20 NES games will be playable with online play through the service, such as Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros 3., and the Legend of Zelda. The service will cost $3.99 for 1 month, $7.99 for 3 months, and $19.99 for 12 months. Additionally, Nintendo will also launch a family plan at $34.99 for 12 months. This family plan will allow the holder of the family plan to invite up to seven other people.

I hope it's like the online of PS4, as in only one has to pay the online services and the rest of the users enjoy online too without having to pay the service. I don't want to pay triple the price for me and my two siblings

Cloud saves with the paid online service? Ahhhhhhhh! That's why savegames are such nicely closed-up on this console. Not for any good technical reason, but for the money money money. Should have seen that coming

At least they didn't go the microtransaction way of making you pay for each load/save.
(now wait for their next console)

but NO VC :creep:

Man, I'm glad people are hacking the Switch to do what Nintendont want to to do. It's sad when hackers do what they refuse to add.

You don't know this is the reason why. When SNES VC games came out on the N3DS people got upset that they had to buy them again even if they had them for the WII U. Nintendo said no transfer and people sucked it up. There were no lawsuits.

By this logic Nintendo wouldn't be releasing WII U ports on the switch because anyone who bought Pokken Tournament, Mario Kart 8, Bayoneta l & 2, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, etc., on the WII U would sue them for the same reason...

When CFW comes out there will be GB, GBC, GBA, NES and SNES emulators. Removing VC won't stop people drom storing roms and playing them on the switch.

To this day people are pirating N3DS VC console releases from freeshop and I don't see Wii U owners suing Nintendo for this neither.

It seems like you are just looking to excuse Nintendo and making stuff up to do so. Your reasons that explain why, are totally imaginary since they happened before and everything was fine.

Yeah, and it's a pretty lame excuse NOT to include GBA, GB, Snes, etc VC games on the Switch. I wanted Snes games, but noooooo, they had to pander to the 3DS users for that. Gimme a break, I'm glad the Switch has been hacked.

This confirms Nintendo never intend to offer local saves which is very bullish of them.

Online Retro fitted classics are really exciting to me ,not nesscairly nes but if they later bring in snes/n64 games to the service with online modes that would be steller.

Sorry to ruin it for you but no, each account will need to buy a separate membership, unless you buy the family bundle which is 35 bucks making things even worse...

The thing that sucks most is you know the online service will be subpar at best.

Cool, a lot of people have been asking for cloud saves, that's nice (kinda shitty that its behind a paywall when Xbox and Steam do it cloud saving for free)(come to think of it, the 3ds let us back up our saves locally for free and to this day we still haven't cracked how to inject our saves through the systems save data backup feature so idk why they're so scared of implementing free local switch save backups), still waiting on a messaging system on the switch for me to buy the subscription tho, also maybe some actual servers to play on instead of the crappy p2p connections we have now (also why the hell do we still need the phone app for chatting with friends? I would've thought that once they have the time to better their online service they would make it so that we can chat through the switch itself with a headset but I guess they couldn't even get that right)

While I understand Nintendo doesnt want to open the savegame-exploit-door. I don’t like that they cheaped out on the possibility to store savegames on physical cartridges and don’t offer any possibility outside their online service. With the handheld mode the switch is a pretty viable offline on the go option where I would have liked the option to insert a micro sd which gets a special format and encryption just for the saves.

They basically made it so that users pay for the security for the protection of Nintendo profit.
