Hacking Nintendo DS/Lite WiFi Connection

I recently heard on a forum that the WiFi connection on the DS was really bad. He said "you have to hold the ds up to your computer to get a good connection." Does anyone agree with this guy? Was it the old DS that has this problem, or the new lite version?

A complete lie. I can play my DS online from several rooms away, even outside, and the connection remains stable and with full bars.
