technically, a cracked rom is only for bypassing AP and such, a patch is broader in the sense that it can be a translation, mod, etc

In other words, basically hex editing by the user, crack done by uploader.

Umm... you're missing the first thing that comes to my mind when it comes to ROMs... patched ROMs...

A patched ROM is a ROM that has been edited/has a patch which enables the user to do things that the ROM normally wouldn't let you do, like an English translation patch for a Japanese game, etc. (or at least that's my definition)

Already added, thanks though

.7z is probably pretty important, since apparently these days people think 7zip is convenient for archiving.

.7z is a file extension that can be opened with 7zip.

AP is Anti-Piracy which is a feature incorporated into many new games.

Emulator - are programs that allow a computer or modern console to duplicate the function of a video game console.

DLDI is missing.

DLDI stands for Dynamically Linked Device Interface. It is an interface that allows homebrew developers to create a single code that will ensure that the homebrew runs on all flashcarts, rather than individually coding each and every flashcart. Developed by Chishm, I believe.

M3/M3i Flashcards? You listed the M3 firmware, but I have no clue what a M3 is.....

M3 is a flashcard support team nearly dying, among other things.

(Sorry, can't resist a bad joke)

I just realised, you don't have a definition for homebrew. Oh wait, yes you do. Oh well. Homebrew applications are applications developed solely for flashcarts and emulators and generally offer features that are NOT offered in regular games.

Some examples:
- Moonshell, a multimedia player
- Colors!, a detailed application which lets the user draw (good) pictures

Could you please explain them or give a brief benefit of them? I don't know much of the M3 Flashcart.

Ah, neither do I. It was just that you listed the M3 Firmware Sakura, without saying what a M3/M3i was.

I do have it, but I've expanded on it. Thank you

M3s are kinda dying, along with the R4...

Few new file formats.

1) .cc, a cheat code file
2) .dat, a database file. Most commonly seen in USRCHEAT.DAT, an action replay (AR) database. Edit with r4cce.

Definition of Action Replay: "hacks" for a game in the form of codes that allow you to do cool things like walk through walls, infinite health, et cetera. Removes all the challenge of a game.

Does anyone know what a Proper ROM is? Is it just a clean rom?

I'm going to suppose here: proper is a rom with the correct size and such (not trimmered), I mean, the closest to the original cartridge (without the plastic, of course). A clean rom is the one without a patch or a crack.

Repeat: it's MY supposition.
