Okay, other terms is starting to fill up, what should I name the new Subheading?
Should I name it, "Features of Flashcarts"?

Nvm, already done.

Anyone have anymore useful information?

some patchers give you a .bak file which is the format the original or clean rom is left in while the patched one becomes the nds the most recent Medabots japanese game had that kind of output if you want an example

No mention of G6 flashcart makes me sad...
G6 was a slot 2 flashcard that needed a linker so you can transfer your roms to it, and a PassMe cart so you could enter DS mode.
Speaking of linker, it's a device some carts needed to be plugged in so they can "interact" with you PC.
Speaking of slot 2, it's where the GBA cartridge were inserted (not avaliable after DSi). Slot 1 is where you insert the regular DS cart.
Speaking of PassMe, it was a cartridge you needed to DS could "understand" it was on DS mode.
There were also a FlashMe (I think that was the name), a custom firmware used early, before slot 1 carts were made.

Code:
[spoiler][title: TITLE OF SPOILER]spoiler content here[/spoiler]

Also I think mentions of the G6 and such don't need to be in there as I've never heard mention of them in use here. Historical data belongs in a wiki, GBAtemp's guides are meant to be up to date, and cutting out useless information (yes, info on the G6 is useless to the average temper) cuts down on the visual size and amount to maintain.

another correction, acekard isn't a recent flashcart, it's the new firmware that came out
wink.gif

iSmart is a new flashcart developed by the EZ team.
SCDS2 is a flashcart that can play games with AP without patching
iPlayer can play GBA games
R4, revived from the dead, with wood firmware, buy only if you just want to play games. has multiple clones.
DSTT: a flashcart that has many unofficial updates.

Most flash carts are dead, thus they are not worth looking into. Only a small handful currently have support. Here's my copy-paste for you to look at to get more of an idea on what we mean.

QUOTE said:
You have three choices for carts that have proper support/updates.
[*]The original R4.
NOT "R4-III Upgrade", NOT "R4-SDHC", NOT "R4i", NOT "R4 Gold", NOT "R4 Red", NOT "R4 King"...
NOT ANYTHING ELSE WITH "R4" IN THE NAME! JUST "R4 Revolution".
  • Price: $6 from shoptemp.com
  • Advantages: Can use Wood R4, giving it compatibility with modern games.
  • Disadvantages: No DSi support, limited to memory cards 2GB and lower, no special features.
  • Rank: The cheap card for somebody that just wants to play some games on a DS/Lite.
[*]Acekard 2i
  • Price: $15 from shoptemp.com
  • Advantages: Can use AKAIO, giving it compatibility with modern games. Can update itself and cheats over wifi, supports the DSi/XL, and supports memory cards up to 32GB.
  • Disadvantages: Can't do any of the special stuff the DSTwo can.
  • Rank: Mid-range card for people that want to play lots of games on a DSi/XL with some extra features.
[*]Supercard DSTwo
  • Price: $35 from shoptemp.com
  • Advantages: Supports the DSi/XL, can update itself even if the DSi won't run it, supports memory cards up to 32GB, real-time save (save states), in-game guide (show text and images from walkthroughs without having to reset the game), "free cheat" which lets you modify memory while the game is running, GBA and SNES emulator, slow motion, and more.
  • Disadvantages: The most expensive card.
  • Rank: Pretty much the ultimate card right now.

I posted it for reference because I don't think it's fit for a guide, as prices may change or new carts may come out, so the current best might be different from one week to the next. ^^;

Also, this site lists and links firmware for all known carts (and shows all the clones as well).

http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/

I've added most of the known clones. Also, I've left the 3 recommended Flashcarts as they will most likely be the best Flashcarts for the rest of the DS's product lifecycle since the 3DS is due to arrive within a years time.

Also whats a Rumble Pak? And what does it do/ how does it benefit the user?
I've added what I believe it to be.
Anyone have any ideas of nds file formats or other things which relate to the NDS console which I haven't stated?

I think you should include:
DS mode (this is how all current flashcard run their games, even the DSi compatible cards.) [can't find a better definition as of the moment]
DSi enhanced (a game that takes advantage of certain DSi features not available in earlier versions.)
