Nintendo 3DS gets a new firmware update for version 11.14.0-46

dims.jpg

2020 hasn't been the most stable year, but at least Nintendo is hard at work making sure that above all else, the Nintendo 3DS is the most stable thing in your life during these trying times. The system has just received a brand new firmware update, the first of 2020, to be exact, bringing the revision number to 11.14.0-46. Currently, the yls8 page shows us that a few changes were made regarding the web browser, NATIVE_FIRM, and more. The official changelog from Nintendo says the oh so popular phrase you've come to love:
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Considering the random nature of this update, and the first few initial claims of those that took the plunge already, you might want to hold off on updating for right now, if you value having homebrew on your console. Reports state that Luma3DS is crashing, and that BrowserHax has been patched.

Yes, newly released luma is working for already CFW 3DS. I had only an error to my N3DS and cannot run twilight menu++ but I can't remember if it was due to my twilight installation or broke due to update.

Anyway, first update luma and then update 3DS to make your life stable.

If you updated 3DS then download luma from the git repository, extract content from the zip file, rename your old boot.firm to boot.firm.bck or any other name to make a backup, just in case in, in your SD card and place boot.firm from extracted files. Then update your 3DS.

P.S.: Get a nand backup if you want to be 100% safe.

Got the newest firmware yesterday, after updated Luma via "LumaUpdater.cia". All works well, tested my fowarders NDS.cias wich work with TWL++ and the R4i Gold together. The GBA/NES injection .cias working well, as Picodrive injections .cias, all maded in NSUI still playing perfect. 3DS titles .cias too.
Thank's to all Luma developers, you are the best!

no fix yet? my god.... CFW user's are going take it hard for a while.
What led you to that conclusion? The fix was available within hours of the update.

Everyone with a userland exploit should install CFW because it protects your homebrew access
Even in the practically-unthinkable event that Nintendo should suddenly decide now is the time to patch all the userland exploits have been around for years, and patch all the non-userland exploits that are still usable for CFW installation, there's always ntrboot. But most people are already much more interested in using TWiLight Menu, NSUI, blacklisted flashcarts, LayeredFS, region-blocked software, CIAs, and all the other stuff you can't do with userland homebrew anyway.

and even if Luma3DS is temporarily broken, then you can still boot Original Firmware and possibly have access to homebrew.
Have you forgotten all the intense discussion about why booting original firmware is problematic?

I can confirm, from what little I did as a test, cia games work, homebrew launcher works (heard ntr doesn't work, but I didn't test it). I made a backup of my nand before updating as well in case I find out something is broken. I did use the luma updater. I checked without a micro sd card as well. everything that I tested works. :)

Expecting a fix in Luma within the next 24 hours lol
When you posted this, the update was already released a day before.

Can you please tell me? I must have missed that

I don't know what luma did before the fix, but I encountered no problems with 10.2.1. the updater will find it, and it will also update the ctrNAND, which I did test as well. you can even use godmode for ctrNAND (think it's a script or a feature from what I remember, so there's no need to add it manually like you used to have to do).

afaik, b9s can't be patched. they can throw hurdles in the way, but there's not really anything nintendo can do about it. I guess they're just patching loopholes to make its installation easier. compare this to the 200+ steps of a9lh, which had a high brick risk if you did the wrong thing or installed the wrong firmware.

We wouldn't be able to post it here either since it's copyrighted, but you can download it yourself with 3DNUS

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
