First I am hearing of it but then I do not watch TV anymore or "normal" news.
Any and all transactions I do in cash (online purchases these days I give cash to people for and they use theirs). I have used mine once and that was only because the machines en route were busted (the fact anything I get paid for comes in cash nowadays is even better).
Coins: most of the time used for machines, to make up numbers and as a makeshift weapon (nailing aggressive 16 year old/junkie between the eyes with a 20p (or better an old style 50) and watching them scramble for it is priceless).
Failing that when I realise I have enough to do my shopping for the week with them.
@thaigrocer the UK government decided it would be too much of a risk (read tax dodge) so the UK was not signed up (most people I know have Eu accounts in fun places anyway or do the perpetual traveller ).
As for my opinion: meh, a coin is a coin. Provided they work in machines I do not care.
