Hi all,
as a fellow noob who had to dig through 50 pages of the same questions, whines, and screams about 4.3 would it be too hard to have a short 4.3 FAQ sticky that answers the most common questions. That way, threads wouldn't get bogged down with repetition and well-meaning folk explaining the same things over and over.
OMG My little brother updated my Wii to 4.3. What can I do to make Homebrew work again?
- If you have BootMii as boot2v4 installed and have a NAND backup just restore your Wii and enjoy.
- If you have a NAND backup but BootMii was lost (I read you can get it back, but too noob to understand).
- No NAND backup. DO NOT try to downgrade. You have no NAND backup and downgrading carries a high risk of bricking. Dedicated hackers are working their asses off to make Homebrew work on 4.3 so just sit tight and enjoy your Wii games the old fashioned way.
Are there more advanced methods to get back Homebrew?
- Yes, but they require specific games and as you are a noob and don't have a NAND backup, do you really want to brick your Wii?
- You can use Smash Stack or Indiana Pwns method. See guide http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-g...os-4-3-wii.html
Phew. I'm still on 4.2. But now I can't sleep because my Wii might update to 4.3 and ruin my life forever
- DO NOT update through official Nintendo online or disk updates
- You will always be asked by your Wii if you want to update, but if you need family retard protection use Preloader or StartParch to block online and disk updates.
Don't I need 4.3 to enjoy my Wii to the fullest?
- NO. The core update is solely there to break Homebrew and does not add any features at all. You will not miss anything by not updating.
But my Shop Channel no longer works. I'm not a filthy pirate, so I want to download my stuff fair and square.
- You can update the Shop Channel independently of the 4.3 update. Guide here: http://gwht.wikidot.com/wii-shop
Not updating to 4.3 will not affect any of my legal enjoyment of games? I don't believe you.
- Staying on 4.2 will not affect any of your games. I promise.
- Sooner or later games will ship that require a disk upgrade to play, but just use Preloader or StartPatch to disable them.
What about IOS58? That's new. I want it, I want it, I want it!
- Only games that use USB cameras use IOS58 (such as Ubisoft's Your Shape)
- Use this neat little program to install ios58: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=207126
Against all logic, I want 4.3 and Homebrew on my Wii. Is it possible?
- To reiterate, there is no need to take this risk. Please make sure you have a NAND backup before proceeding.
- There are Firmware Updates that will safely take your Wii to 4.3 without breaking Homebrew, such as Waninkoko's 4.3b. Note that this will not work if you are already on 4.3.
