I only quote changes:
QUOTE said:
* Added the ability to customise the enhanced menu button trigger via config.xml
* After an in-game reset, the last game played will be selected in the game list
* While traversing directories, the position of the selection in parent directories is remembered (instead of the selection being reset to the first entry each time you return to a parent directory)
* New config.xml options for setting the root directory for the game list, and customising the executable launched when "Media" is selected from the main menu (so you can select between Moonshell 1, Moonshell 2 etc)
* EXPERIMENTAL stability improvement for GTA:CTW
* Game compatibility fixes (3872, 3874)

Still no Made in Ore fix...

Yeah I bought it anyway. =P
has it not been fixed in an earlier release already? Beta 1 added 3690.
Nope, that only fixed the black screens, the save issue is still unfixed.

And finally a GTA fix? Too bad no one actually plays it anymore.

Some nice changes there regarding browsing the menu and customisable enhanced menu combo (took them long enough!). I somehow have a feeling this is going to be the closest we'll get to a GUI redesign this year.

While not buggy, the new changes to try & make your navigating better--like the enhanced menu or remembering the played game value or the MSHL2--aren't fine-tuned enough to try right now. (Small stuff here & there like some Folders are no longer hidden and some said features don't always work as well as you think)
And apparently the new experimental CW fix causes new stability problems, though I haven't tested that feature yet.

From the looks of things, stick w/ BETA 2 unless you want to toy around w/ BETA 3. B/c outside the compatibility fixes to 2 Japanese games, the rest of the changes are iffy to some extent and BETA 2 is perfectly fine by comparison.

All the more reason to get Beta3, tbh, so you can pick out what don't work quite perfectly so you can report to TC and they can fix it for the stable release.

Also, I don't have any hidden folders so I don't know about that, but what problems are you getting? Folder navigation and remembering games seem to be working fine for me so far.

I've noticed that in this upgrade, the CycloDS folder shows up in the menu. Before, it was always hidden.

Well my earlier post was what I got from others who discovered the beta hours before me & gave me their opinions. In hindsight, there was a lot of small nitpicks & over-exaggeration

Now that I tried every bit of it completely, I see the only place I think anyone should complain about is if the GTA fix causes more problems than fixes.

Here's just what I'd have to say as an update from my earlier post:
* Added the ability to customise the enhanced menu button trigger via config.xml
- Nothing wrong here, the complaints I heard were from people who didn't know how to correctly change a text file. Haha.

* After an in-game reset, the last game played will be selected in the game list
- Only 2 times this didn't work, and I didn't look into why b/c it's no big deal. If it doesn't work, it's as though the feature wasn't there so who cares?

Just scroll through the list like usual.
* While traversing directories, the position of the selection in parent directories is remembered (instead of the selection... [etc])
- Same as above, nothing so terrible you can't go "Meh" & move on.
* New config.xml options for setting the root directory for the game list, and customising the executable launched when "Media" is selected... [etc]
- No problems. I'm sure people here already know you could do this before, by dragging a .nds file to the moonshl folder & rename it moonshell.nds. Nothing new; maybe more user-friendly.
Statement/complaint about folders no longer being hidden.
- I didn't notice this problem when I first tried it, b/c I hide all my unused folders. Apparently some folders that were auto-hidden before aren't now, so you do it yourself if you want

Ah, I didn't notice the Cyclo folder being shown now, since right after I downloaded the firmware I set my home directory to my game directory.

From a quick look at the TC forum, it seems that the experimental GTA support cause some problem that makes the control go a bit sluggish when driving fast. I haven't tried it out myself but if one is planning to play GTA on this firmware they might want to keep it in mind.

I think the issue with GTA stems from a slow microSD or fragmentation or the battery saver mode or something rather than the firmware. I've never had any issues with that game. It may also be something showing its ass between the 3 hardware revisions of the CycloDS. I have V3, which I assume would be the most stable version to have for the newest firmware revisions. At any rate, it matters little to me, I'm done with that game anyway. But I understand them attempting to remove the enhanced menu hook to help get it going for people having issues with that game.

I noticed certain folders not being hidden anymore. My solution to that is to just manually hide them through Windows. No biggie, I've been doing that for various folders ever since I owned an R4. Though if some people don't have their computer OS set up right, it will make those folders seem to disappear on them when they plug their microSD into the computer. I imagine this little problem will be fixed in either the next beta or final.

As for reset highlighting the last game you played.....I don't know, I just don't care about that. I can select my games fine. Generally, if I reset out of a game, it's to choose something else to play anyway.

Being able to set a default folder to load to is really nice, but I have multiple folders for DS Games, Homebrew and various emulators, so I leave that at default.

Moonshell.....it was kinda fun to mess around with when I first got into flashcarts, but I really don't use it much anymore as I feel watching vids on the DS is sorta annoying with such tiny screens, so I haven't looked into getting MS2 going. Doesn't look like it would be very difficult though.

I'd be careful adjusting the buttons to bring up the enhanced menu. You NEVER want to set it to just one button. That could cause some games to lose some functionality if they used that button. If I was to alter that, it would be to a 3-button combo at minimum.

All I want is a file delete feature directly in the firmware so I don't have to use a separate program or plug the SD into a computer to get rid of crappy games.
