Well, as most will probably know: Super Mario Bros2 for nes is actually super doki doki panic (sp?) with mario sprites, and the real smb2 never left Japan.

So I finally decided to give it a try. From the 6 roms mentioned in GoodNes only 2 can actually be started in the emulators, and only one is without sprite errors.

So far so good, however in that sole working version, the game freezes after the 4th level

Guess I could switch to Lost Levels on the SNES, but I've heard it is easier (you can load for example), so I wonder if anyone managed to play the true smb2 on a NES emu. If so what version of the rom did you use? What Emu?

The original SMB2j was only released for the Famicom Disk System (AKA FDS), so it's not in GoodNES. All the ROMs in GoodNES are hacked pirate ROMs which aren't necessarily true to the original. You'll have to find an FDS Image of SMB2j together with the Famicom Disk System BIOS, then you can play it on the PC with NESTopia or on the GBA with HVCA.

First of all...

If you need to emulate the actual Famicom version of SMB2, stop thinking in roms. Instead, get the disk image of the Famicom Disk System version of SMB2j which should be an fds file. Many of the better NES emulators can do FDS emulation and it seems to work better than the strange rom copies of SMB2j floating around.

P.S.
The Gameboy Color game Mario DX has SMB2j unlockable too.

Thanks @ all.
It took a while, as the old http sources seem to have all died over the years, and those on irc who have it, were currently offline. Google was very helpfull... not. But i've finally found it

Compared to the working hack I've seen some different sprites... Haven't made it to level 5 yet but I guess it will work as planned...

Looks like I have a somewhat complete set (some 180 images). Any other Famicom only games worth playing?

I would like a Predator game "Kill Team" it takes place in the Jungle of the first movie, your team is sent to hunt the predator, using current tech drones and a trained team. Set traps use strategy to hunt and trap or kill the predator.

Ill stick with my Battlefield. Yea a predator hunting game like that would be cool. Esp if you can be Arnold and say "Get to da choppa"

I went today and looked at a motorcycle someone was selling. I get there and the battery on it was dead, so the guy grabbed a battery charger and hooked it up. He plugged it into the wall, and the motorcycle sparked and started smoking. Come to find out the bike uses a 6 volt battery and the guy had the charger set to 12v. I said sorry to the dude and walked away. I felt bad for him tho.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
He ruined it basically. Sad cause it was a decent old bike. It would take more money to rewire the bike than it was worth tho.
