This topic has been moved from http://gbatemp.net/t...nds-iconhandler,
because the project is renamed from "NDS IconHandler" to "NDS ExplorerEx"

i have created an Windows-Explorer-Extension (NDS ExplorerEx). Its shows the NDS-Game-Image as Icon and Game-infos as ToolTip.

Features
  • shows the ROM-Image as icon
  • shows ROM-infos as tooltip
  • trim & untrim ROMs
  • rename ROMs

History

v.1.2.0
  • fixed for Windows 8 and 10 (only tested on Win 10 x64)
v.1.1.0
  • only one Installer for x86 and x64
  • shows CRC (original-rom-crc from database and the real file-crc) in Info-Tip
  • fix auto-update-stuff
  • fix some little bugs
  • includes rom-database v5968
v.1.0.8
  • database now based on http://advanscene.com/
  • added a column-handler (currently available columns: "ROM-Code", "Genre", "Publisher")
  • added a pattern for renaming (customizable in settings)
  • automatic product- & database-update
v.1.0.7
  • added patchmode (you can select more as one ROM and can trim/untrim or rename)
  • added a Rominator-database-converter (drag the ds.rod over the ds.rod2nds-rom.dat.exe its wil create the nds-rom.dat in the same folder as your ds.rod. Copy the nds-rom.dat to %APPDATA%NDS ExplorerEx and have fun)
v.1.0.6
  • Fix problem when installing (on some systems)
v.1.0.5
  • check Header- & Banner-CRC
  • added ContextMenu-Handler (for rename & trim/untrim)
v.1.0.4
  • little fix
  • now with Installer

NOTE: when the v1.0.0.3 is installed, then uninstall it with the old-stuff uninstall.bat before you install v1.0.4
v.1.0.0.3
  • renamed "NDS IconHandler" to "NDS ExplorerEx"
  • added a ToolTip-Handler (shows now ROM-Infos in ToolTip see Image)

all my roms are in *.rar's , so i get very very little use out of this, even though i would LOVE to have the ingame icon show up instead of the .rar icon.

i understand that reading the icon from a rom file and a packed rar are completley different things, but do you think there is a way to implement this for rar files containt a .nds and other image files and .nfo?

i'm eager to read your response

you create beautiful peace of software.

sujestion :

1. add IPF filter, so windows search can search information in roms. (for example - rpg typed in search box will bring all rpg titles)

2. make 3-d party information (genre, pulisher, e.t.c) awalable in windows explorer (pic attached). or as workaround add option to rename files by mask like name - publisher - genre - wi-fi. I belive it will help to organize roms.

Questions:
  • Can you edit the ROM name stored in the ROM itself? If so, how do you know if you are changing the actual file name or the internal name?
  • What database is the ROM info pulled from?
  • How does it know what the trimmed and clean ROM dump sizes are?
I agree with obaz that being able to organize by Genre would be nice. Not sure if its possible as the genre is pulled from (what I expect) an external database, not the file itself. Not sure if Explorer can sort by anything other then file data (file type, size, etc.).

This software is great! Thank you for coming up with this.

I have a couple of questions,
does the trim functionality will remove wifi or ds wireless play?
where can i get Rominator-database-converter (ds.rod2nds-rom.dat.exe)?

ds.rom2nds-rom.dat.exe located in C:\Program Files\NDS ExplorerEx (when you install 1.07)

P.S.: Is it possible to implement .gba; .sav support for example: an icon NDS SAV for .sav files?

+1 for .sav and .gba support.

Downloaded, and have hardly used... but already, it be awesome XD
AFAIK, GBA games don't have the same header info.
They have an internal name, but "Super Mario Advanced 2: Super Mario World" is "SUPER MARIOB". They also don't have an icon.

As for .SAV, it's kind of the same thing. It doesn't have a name and no icon.

If you just want to change the icons for ALL .gba and .sav files, that's simple enough to do.
