I have been using Pasta CFW since I bought the console, but I think its a little outdated now and it time to upgrade it.
I was keeping my WIFI off and never tried to go online while using Pasta. Is there a CFW that will allow me to play online safely? I know pasta runs on sysnand, so I didn't want to take any chances with that.
Please explain how exactly playing online on CfW works and also point out the safest way to make sure the 3ds doesn't update somehow to a later firmware.
Thanks

Have you tried using EMUnand.

I have only had a n3ds(or any 3ds) for 3 days and its the best solution for your firmware version as im on the same.

Emunand as the name states is a virtual formware store on a partition on your SD card. When you unlink it from ths SYSnand your default firmware is protected.
So if you accidentally update etc on the EMUnand your ds is still safe.

You install all your games and apps like you would normally except they dont install on the Sysnand.
Playing online on CFW is fine for you and isnt really bannable from what i hear because CFW use cias it creates a unque id for you.
While using a card like SKY3DS requires you to have perosnal headers to avoid being banned. So you are safe playing online right now on pasta without emunand.

The safest bet is to EmuNand RXtools it has pasta inbuilt on latest nightlies its also safest bet to avoid updating as you can leave it online and default sysnand offline if you autobooot it.
Also making a Emunand will copy over everyone from yuo main system the first time round.

See here for an easy way to do it.

Thank that was helpful. I will go for emunand, but I heard Reinand is easier to set up so might just use that

EmuNAND is a feature of CFW, not a CFW itself. ReiNand supports emuNAND, so does Cakes and rxTools.
Yeah I know, I meant I'll ditch Pasta and go for a CFW that has emunand, and use the emunand.

Go with cakes or rxtools. I have both and use cakes as my primary one. I believe reinand is not updated anymore.
In the wiki it says that rxtools isnt for new 3ds, so I guess its between reinand and cakes.
I just want to play 3ds\maybe some gba games so if both of them allow that, I'll just go with the one that is easier to set up.

Also, another question - for playing ds games on my n3ds, what are my options?

The only way is to get a $10 flashcart for DS games. I recommend the R4iSDHC Snoopy card (it's what I have) http://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=567

I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

It does that when I edit a post.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
