Gaming N+ stuck at "Saving ..." - m3 cf slot2

I am using a slot 2 m3 adapter cf flash card [ Yes it is old and it is in a ds phat] N+ game loads without any sound through the introductory company ad screens and then gets to a screen that says Saving do not shutoff your system. It just sits there and never moves on. Has anyone written this game to an old flash kit using the M3 Game manager v34a CF version software? What settings did you use that worked? I have tried a few different ones and they all resulted in failure.
