Let me explain MS Paint Adventures!!!

MS Paint Adventures is a website by Andrew Hussie. Currently, there are four webcomics hosted there: Jailbreak, Bard Quest, Problem Sleuth, and Homestuck. Every comic is user-driven via commands, similar to one of those games where you're given a description and then you type in a command, though one of the webcomics stopped using that medium partway in, in favor of more traditional storytelling.
  • Jailbreak is a 134-page webcomic that is currently on hiatus with almost no chance of being picked up again. It is simply about a man who is trying to escape from prison. This was the first webcomic to grace the site.
  • Bard Quest is an 82-page choose-your-own-adventure webcomic that is currently on hiatus with almost no chance of being picked up again. It is about a young bard's endeavors to slay dragons.
  • Problem Sleuth is a 22-chapter webcomic and is the only finished webcomic on MS Paint Adventures. It is the story of a hard-boiled detective.
  • Homestuck is the currently-running webcomic on the site. Please do not let me tell you about Homestuck. All I'll say is that it's so complex and long that after reading 50 pages a day for about 5-6 months, I was finally caught up...but this was when the story was about half as long. If you really want to know about Homestuck, read it or go here.

I recently started Homestuck, gotta say that I liked Jailbreak and Problem Sleuth a lot more. I guess that it'll become better (hopefully).

Jailbreak made me ROFL quite a bit of times, none of the subsequent comics did that :(

I knew it, I'm surrounded by hussies.
Not entirely, I still don't get the massive fanwanking over Homestuck.

Where are you at? After a certain point, the interestingness of the story skyrockets. Before that, it's just okay.
Can this point be pinpointed so a person reading from the beginning could know how much longer they have to endure before it becomes good?

yeah, format is now really bad, and pictures are offline :(
too bad, it was funny.

It was a user driven adventure (but with too much wrong ideas, story went nowhere).
I LOVED THOSE! Man, they were so amazing! Too bad they went nowhere :(

Well, I'm at Act 4 and I'm quite liking it.

Yeah, but eventually it gets to the point where even the narrator is kind of exasperated over the whole thing and you have to start wondering if you're really going to read it the whole way through or if you're just wasting your time. Then something happens and you get obsessed for a couple of days.

Le bump - it gets good at the end of Act 1 or so. After that it's all good up to Act 4, when it becomes kinda slow (need to explain a lot of background stuff). I'm still in the middle of the "slow" part, but it's picking up pace.

Anyway, it's pretty much a love or hate thing. I became used to the Author's style reading Problem Sleuth, which is a sort of a "prequel". I'd highly recommend that before Homestuck (maybe after Jailbreak, which is funny as hell) as it lets you understand if you're ready to have your brain explode in a sequela of time travel paradoxes and whatever.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
