Then I only can guess that it is too much training in a row without enough rest.
Just feeding stress/fatique reliefers isn't enough.
What is its Wits?
If it feels like a loser, you know?

Feed him every month the most nutritious/high calory food. If it wants second helpings, give it some, discipline can always be easily remedied (if it gets soft because of it).

Wow, my monsters have always obeyed me even when lax or soft - although they're 80% even. However I can't ever make them follow me on the ranch, they always randomly go whenever they please.

See, you've answered yourself, already.

Try to go on an errant with a monster like this and have it survive the full path.

I went and it was perfectly fine. They may not follow me on the ranch, but when doing errantry, my monster followed me all the way, only once he did not go where I told him to. And yes, I don't count not going to the exact spot specified but a few metres next to it as not following orders. And when a new crystal is found, if you quickly tap on it, the monster will go and collect it.

By the way, when you go on the errantry to the forest, is the one map the whole errantry or is there a way to get further (so that the screen switches and you're on a new map)? Like

I am impressed, really.
Which monster was it actually?

Neither had I a monster going straight to a point myself, nor have I heard of one doing this.

The way you described it is exactly the way it works for "good" monsters.

How many "claps" do you make generally?
I start with one to test it's capabilities.
Most of the time 2 will do fine. Sometimes 3 are needed in rapid succesion to get it back on track.
And my monsters are always at "even".
I will test "strict" next. With the same monster, of course.

Have you tried a "Yuma" yet?
The description lets assume that it could be damn good for errants.
So I will try to raise one next. Especially for errants.
(see my list how to unlock one, if you aren't able to revive on already)

Sorry, but the last days I was trying to find simple patterns to unlock cool monsters all the time. (see my list a page back)
But if I remember correctly (Forest = bridges?), then there is nothing more at the end.

------------------------------------------------
NEW cool monsters added to the last list
------------------------------------------------
Dragon
Titan
Nightfang
Allure
Death Clown
Grapie
Magmax
Pirahnicolo

...and some minor ones, as always.

I've got a Flazer. Most of the time he's even, only once or twice he had soft discipline. I'm not really sure, but I think that one or two taps will do if it's nearby. If I tap a lot far away place the monster doesn't react so well when it's closer, so it's better to tap more often nearer than once far away.

I haven't, I'm on my second monster so far and I'm playing the game for fun, and I'll unlock the breeds eventually.

Dependence alters your discipline : (-) means it will become more strict, (+) more lax. Eg. if you give a (-) dependence item (like the discipline stone) to your monster its discipline will go from spoiled to lax, from lax to soft, from soft to even, from even to strict and so on. (+) items will do the opposite.

Wits should help you find items when doing errantry, I'm not sure about the normal ones as I've always had wits on hero and more when doing it, but I'm pretty sure it may affect finding event items (the special ones gained through yellow crystals).

I've uploaded the data of 145 monsters I've unlocked so far (MegaUpload).

Now you can have a look at what maybe a monster worth breeding.

Thanks for that, now all we need is some work on how to actually reproduce your discovered monsters. I somehow think its gonna take a long long time to get an accurate way of doing it for every one of them

Why not just read the 1st page of this thread?
A lot of the listed patterns are "shure shots" (even when not drawn 100% correct the monster will show up).
There are some which have a random element to them, because of matching more than 1 monster.
The rest you can't draw you can simply breed yourself out of the ones you got.

Ha, just got the magic spell technique. I wrote in FLIRT, and got a monster called Genocider.
For a Genocider to pop up you must have unlocked the Durahan first by doing the corresponding "quest".

Some more tips...

Action Points - The hidden parameter
====================================
There is a hidden parameter, Action points, which is modified every time you
take an action. If your action points are high, your Potential will go up
after combination. Rank can increase from the parents in combination, but in
order to increase the rank to high, monsters with a lot of action points are
required.

Small gain actions
------------------
Successful training
Winning a battle

Moderate gain actions
---------------------
Finishing a tournament
Winning a tournament
Winning a local battle (Rank B or higher)
Winning a wi-fi battle

Large gain actions
------------------
Excellent training
Coming back from an errantry
Unlocking a new monster or breed
Getting a monster bounty (Noramon)
Learning a new technique

Large Penalty
-------------
Resetting the game

Note:
The "Reset penalty" can be avoided by freezing the monster before
doing a reset! This was tested several times with monsters "on the
edge" where the monster was showing a "->" for potential after
reset and a diagonally upwards arrow when frozen before resetting
several times.

Breeding tips:
==============
- When combining 2 monsters, the resulting talents will be chosen randomly
or even can get lost, if not "locked" in advance. "Locking" talents can be
done by going to the monsters "Techs/Talents" under DATA. When on the talents
screen, simply tapping on the talent of choice to keep will bring up a dialog
box, which will result in a "locked" talent after answering with "yes".
Only 1 talent for Breed and Battle each can be locked per monster.
- The same happens to the already learned techs, with the difference that they
cannot be locked. So it is wise to freeze every monster and save before doing
any combination to avoid the "Reset penalty" when a reset is unavoidable
because of an important talent or technique gone lost.
- Sometimes you may want to lose an unwanted talent or even some techniques to
gain AP for learning them again.
- The age of a monster does play a role when using it for combination!
The best results can be achieved by freezing it or using it for combination
directly after your assistant tells you that "XY is getting pretty mature".
This happens when the Prime time of your monster is over and every month,
your monster is active after this message, will result in lower stats values.
You may have 1-2 month to use for drills to counter the effect and even get
a little improvement out of them, but don't take this for granted everytime!
Especially dragons are known to have a relative short lifespan.
- Also the Rank does play a role for combining (confirmed for Rank SS only).
Even when the Prime time of your monster is over, in average after being 2
years old, becoming Rank SS through winning the S Rank tournament will boost
the stats quite a lot for combining.
