I know, I just don't consider mics to be instruments (when I say instruments I'm talking about the drums and the guitars only).

Good to hear that Beatles instruments are confirmed to work, too.

Now the last interesting thing to find out would be how fast IOS56 actually is...

And if you diconnect the mic while using another IOS? Does it only happen on IOS56?
I just did some further testing on this

cIOS rev20 using CFGloader 58a FAT32

Guitar Hero World Tour with GHWT Mic:
base 56: no reconnect

Guitar Hero 5 with GHWT Mic:
base 56: no reconnect

Rock Band Green Day with GHWT Mic:
base 37: no reconnect
base 53: no reconnect
base 55: no reconnect
base 56: no reconnect
hermes-v4-38+37: works

edit:
would someone with other usb instruments please test this too
I think its quite important

edit2:
I just found out that starting with no mic and then connecting it does NOT WORK too
only tested GH5 on cios56r20

OK, I just did some speed testing. The most consistent speed test I've found (although I haven't looked much) is the Subspace Emissary in Brawl. These tests were performed measuring the time it took from selecting the last character to the level starting. Two tests were made per IOS and the levels were the very first one and "Entrance to Subspace". Between the levels, I quit back to the Brawl Menu as that seems to eliminate caching issues (picking the same level twice in a row takes the same time each time if you do it that way). Tested bases were 37, 38, 56 and 57 with Wanin's in various slots using Cfg 58a to launch. I also tested Hermes v4 38/37 and 38/60 simply because I had them on my Wii already.

248-37: 4.9 3.6
247-38: 4.6 3.4
250-56: 3.8 2.6
249-57: 3.7 2.7
222-38/37: 4.7 3.4
223-38/60: 4.9 3.6

All times are in seconds and each line shows the time for the two tests. As can be seen, it seems that base 56 does have the same speed improvement that base 57 has.

Long story short, it seems we can use base 56 as the global base for all games now. No need to install multiple slots.

Thank you, i think it's decided then: Base IOS56 for everything. Well until anybody reports any issue(not nand emu related!) with base IOS56 that can be fixed by using another base IOS.

Interesting, it would be nice to have some homebrew software for running real benchmarks, Would be interesting to hear from Wanikiko for his reasoning in picking base 57 for the default over 56 (or any others).
I have always thought for a long time it would be interesting to have many cIOSes basically one for each base used. 236=36, 237=37, 238=38 and so on. And then with the help of maybe wiitdb or something, have the USB loader know what the original IOS the game called for and load the relevant cIOS based off that one, i.e. RB2 calls for IOS37 so load cISO237. While appearing more complicated, if the cIOS installer and USB Loaders were programmed with this in mine then it could be very streamlined.
Another idea would be to install the cIOS to the original IOS's slot, i.e. cIOS237 to IOS37 slot, while I understand this to be very dangerous (similar to the actions of DiscCorp) it may be a possible solution for IOS reloading games, since the IOS being asked to be reloaded would be the cIOS.

Anyway I agree with WiiPower, I think I will default to base56 and see play for a while and see what happens.

Careful guys! Dr. Clipper might be mistaken!!

The German homebrew coder "BoeserOnkel" has found out that rev20 still generates a copy of Slot 249 in Slot 250 which is NOT overwritten if you choose another Base IOS for slot 250. He seems to be a reliable source of information, so in order to get real proof, SSBB needs to be tested again with IOS56 installed in another slot! If it's still as fast as IOS57 we're lucky, but we could as well find out that we were wrong and IOS56 might be not any more useful than IOSS37...

Please somebody find that out

only special ios missing is 58, as it is the only known ios that supports the usb cam for your shape
but ios 56 is that, what i expected if we ever get it...the best choice
i now can switch over from 37+38 merged v4 hermes to cios20 56

OK, I retested with 56 in the 249 slot.

My previous install order was 249->250->248->247, so I think 250 was intact as 56, but here's the new numbers anyway:

249-56: 3.8 2.7

Same as before. Point stands.

Awesome. Thank you, you're the man!

So it's settled. cIOS56 is THE ultimate cIOS.

I really wonder how anyone ever came up with IOS 57 as 56 seems to be the holy grail of cIOS patching for USB-loaders...

Sounds good, I installed slot 249 then used ATD to remove 250 and installed 56 to slot 250. Also not to discount anything that anyone else has said/found, but I thought the maxed out version numbers only stopped the official update from overwriting the IOS, and that the cIOS installers would overwrite them regardless.

I also tested it now with SSBB and Entrance to Subspace character select to level start four times to make sure that Dr. Clippers tests are correct.
249 base 38: 3,8
249 base 56: 3,1
249 base 57: 3,1
hermes 222 v4 38+60: 3,9
hermes 223 v4 38+37: 3,9

Nope, this gave me an error. You definitly have to you ATD to remove the 250 one (-:
I didnt get the error when I upgraded from rev19, I had installed base 37 then installed a base 57 wad to slot 249, but it should have left the base 37 in slot 250 has maxed out.

The real reason to use as base 57, is that improves internet connection (ethernet).
Can also test that? Because, if the base 56 do the same as 57 in ethernet, we can say with all letters that base 56 is the ultimate cios.

Is that for wired ethernet connection only or wifi connection too.

I tested cios rev 20, base 56 with MHT and it seemed to work just as good as hermes rev4 37 merged.

Are you sure you didn't have the stubbed Nintendo IOS in the 250 slot? You need to use a patched 36 (preferably in the 236 slot) installed with TBR1.12 or higher as the installation IOS in order to overwrite the stubs without deleting them first. Any Waninkoko IOS should be able to overwrite any other Waninkoko IOS, though.

I tried it with GX r927 and base56, it past the freeze. (And GX doesn't report any wbfs error, unlike with rev19)
I tried it only once though, I need to test it more because it seems to freeze randomly with base38, I don't want to say base56 works if it's just a lucky try
For people wanting to try themselves, here is a savegame (manager GX format) right before the freeze. (you have to talk to the General and come back to help the guy at the entrance. If the battle start after the cut scene it's working fine).

Edit : Tested 2 times successfully !
Base 56 is the best for everything

And I noticed the loading speed too, wasn't sure it if was me imagining, thanks for the speed test that confirmed it.

if you run the installer under IOS236, then it will simply overwrite higher verions without error.
