Hey there,
I know it's been about two weeks since I last posted here, but I kind of needed a break from all this. Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know that from now on the project is officially "on hold". The reason for this is that I've lost all motivation to push it any further for the time being. And this isn't really about me having school again; I've done this with pretty much all of my projects : I work hard on it for a while, and then it just kind of sits there for a few months... until I get back to it and finish it. So don't expect any updates for a few months (at least weeks) as I won't be working on this (I haven't touched the code since version 310811).
And before anyone says I should release the source code, I want you all to know that I have considered it and decided against it for the time being. As I have said already, I do plan on releasing the source code eventually, just not before I feel I'm done with the project. This is merely a break (hopefully) and at any rate the code is in no state to be published at this point in time. Massive amounts of cleaning have to be done and some stuff has to be rewritten, mostly because I tried to rush things to get it out in time for both competitions.

I hope you all understand, I'm very sorry about this.

Also, nice one Bmcs, I haven't tried it yet but it looks really cool.

Sad, but totally understandable. I have the same problem working on most things, I can't stay with it for too long or I lose interest in it completely. When you get back to it, though, I'm sure it'll be awesome.

Thanks

And it's perfectly understandable...you made so much stuff in so little time, and the v31 is more than perfect, the objective was a Classic Version port, and we ended up with much more than that, so, all we can say is thank you for your hard work, and as for us (users and DSCraft fans) we won't let this project fall down

@bmcs i hope you have a map without the trees so we can know where are the blocks in case we never find them all
wink.gif

As you can see in the above answer, i made a grid, although, i send it to garbage yesterday
laugh.gif

But don't worry, believe me, i know every corner of that map, i know where the blocks are
biggrin.gif
OMG where do you live ? I WANT THAT MAP!!! (lol just kidding) but seriously why did you threw it away?

Because the only reason i had to keep it was to know where the blocks are, but i have all of them in my mind. Besides, some blocks are at a different location....

I can make you a "map" with the blocks location....
If you dont mind, btw how big is the map?

I'm still trying to understand the whole Minecraft phenomenon; just doesn't appeal to me for some reason. As for the homebrew effort, I guess you often get what you pay for with these things...

They actually posted a story about Smealum taking a break and made the above remark about it. Poor Smealum.

im sure gnu freeware licencing requires you to release the source code, and i presume you dont want to at the moment because in the few months you have off LOADSof people willprobably take the project into their own hands

Exactly - actually I have a 'bug' with Bmcs 'quest map' combo which MIGHT have something to do with other GURU problems.
(I can live with the 'missing title screen until you change the texture pack' one when starting - for now)

Recently I've been getting a LOT of GURU faults when just moving around his map. (no problems with any other maps I've tried) - I THINK it may be because I've been placing a LOT of torches down to show where I've already been

This, along with the high density of trees etc, is causing these GURU errors.
Maybe because of memory overrun or something like that - there's just too much for DSCraft to handle
- showing stuff on screen like the trees/leaves/lights & the lighting effects, & working out what needs to be shown (or not) as you move

@ Bmcs: BTW - I've found 7 of them so far
Even the one down the ladder & behind the door - any more 'hidden' ones like that in the map??
& I know which 'block' is the password for the first ZIP file so I know what's needed for the second
Having real problems finding the others & even finding my way BACK to the house
cry.gif
wacko.gif
[Pen & Paper is REALLY needed] but I THINK I can crack the second ZIP pack by guesswork of the other blocks - just don't want to ......yet !!!!

It never happened to me, but you're right, it may be because of so many trees and torches
unsure.gif

Well, can you tell me witch ones (at least the ones you remember) you already found? And where? But did you already opened the 1st Zip file? Because, believe me, you really need to open it, otherwise you're not going to do it by guessworking
biggrin.gif

Anyway, i'm thinking on doing another quest, i'm just waiting for someone to finish the first one

and shouldent this thread be temporarily locked?

why? people are still able to post maps and talk about bugs and stuff about the game here

fair enough, but im sure gnu freeware licencing states that you have to release the source code, and i noticed that dragonrider's dscraft forum has been removed by the host and is now advertising thai women and mobile phones

Where did you see that it was a GNU free license ?

I guess it's currently a closed source project and has nothing to do with GNU, and Smealum, as the only author of the source can decide to change it whenever he wants.
He didn't use code from other project or developers as far as I know, it's his own code and he decide the license.

He doesn't have to post it.

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier... I actually manged to stumble back to the 'house' (somehow)

Anyway, I can't tell you EXACTLY where I found them (no co-ords to work with) but, unless you've been VERY sneaky & used 'mixed characters' I'm guessing I'm missing.......
......'5' and '0'

IIRC, I found most of them wandering around.....however the most memorable ones were
  • Down a ladder in a 'cave'
  • Behind a door
  • '8' was the odd block out - it didn't have the 'swirly pattern'
    - I used it's name to open the first ZIP file , so I know how long the password for the second ZIP is,
further proof is that the file inside has 'GOOD LUCK!' in the bottom right corner
  • In a 'water feature'
[n.b. not sure but either I counted the same block twice or there's actually 2 blocks in 'water' features
The ones I've found so far are (if you're clever you'll know how to see the list)

0 - ????, 1 - 'Red', 2 - 'Yellow', 3 - 'Light Green', 4 - 'Purple', 5 - ???? , 6 - 'Orange', 7 - 'White', 8 - 'Sand', 9 - 'Pink'
Proof I [finally] got back to the house -
SCR_00010.png
- You can see the eight blocks I've found so far
(the 'odd block' you can just see the edge of it on the right)
BTW - one of the blocks I'm 'missing' ['5'/'0'] hasn't the same pattern as the others (based on the file inside 'pass1.zip') & could easily be mistaken for the 'different' block
- was this a mistake ?? & since I have most of the password & the order along with what I guess the other 2 missing ones are - it shouldn't be THAT difficult to crack the password to 'pass2.zip'....
.... but I won't - it'll spoil the game

Hey
smile.gif

I played real minecraft alot and when I read that ds has a minecraft homebrew, I kinda got blown away
tongue.gif
Thanks for the game OP!

However... I've ran into a few problems. The main problem is that I cant get this miencraft to work
smile.gif

I got the nitro version to launch, but when I go to options menu and try to change controls, it crashes.

So when I try the fat version... I cant even launch the dscraft. As soon as I launch it, I get a red screen of death error with the following message:
"Guru Modification Error! Undefined Instructions" and a bunch of numbers.

Any idea how to fix it? Im using a dstwo supercard 2 cart and ds lite.

Thanks!
