Minecraft creator "Notch" has refused to submit a cerfication request for the game claiming that Windows 8 ruins the "open platform" capability of the Windows OS.
This is what he has to say on twitter
Notch is the one known to voice his opinions and he claims the Windows 8 OS does not support the desktop users as they previously have been known to be doing so.
For this reason, many people have criticized the decision while Notch remains adamant with his decision for the time being
A unofficial reply has been posted for this stance by Neowin's John Callaham
The verification provides a statement that the application is ready to run reliably for the Windows 8 OS but it does not mean the application is to be published to the App Store.
Previously Valve and Blizzard have also voiced their claims that the OS would only spoil the "ecosystem" and that the OS is not "awesome". Only time will tell whether Notch will go back on his views and decision.

According to me, it doesn't really matter in terms of application compatibility as Rafael Rivera said
"I took Minecraft, made some tweaks, and PASSED app certification. Took me about 4 hours to do."

Do you think this was a good decision or not?

    >Is able to make more money from Minecraft through a Xbox 360 port
    >Tells Microsoft they're ruining the PC as a platform.

    Gratitude.

Well, I think that the PC is better the way it is now with Windows 7, Tried Windows 8 on a VM. It sucked. As for Minecraft. Great game but, I really don't know whether or not it'll fit in with Windows 8! It may work with Angry Birds but, Minecraft? I dunno Microsoft, try again when you actually can make a good desktop OS!

Notch is such an obvious attention whore and drama queen.
Microsoft isn't going to do anything just because of some whining single hit indie developer.
In the end he will be forced to get it certified anyway if he still wants to continue riding the minecraft wave, I mean come on...

There is not enough in the opening post for me to see anything and I am far too lazy to follow up (minecraft has not joined pokemon, kingdom hearts and football in the things that send me to sleep stakes but it certainly does not inspire curiosity) so I will want it qualified, better for something along http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/09/19/somasegar_interview_on_windows_8/ lines but I will take the bootloader stuff as well.

Personally I am more amused that someone with Java as a primary development language for arguably their most popular work is attempting to call MS on ruining an ecosystem when there was Sun and is now Oracle in full on 90's MS and then some mode.

You seem to think that Windows 8 is going to be instantly popular when in reality it's at least a couple of years off from even starting to hit mainstream. Look at how long Windows XP lasted on computers until Windows 7 took over.

And Notch is right, Windows 8 blows chunks and ruins the experience of a desktop for the average PC user. Windows 8 should be exclusively marketed to tablets and touch screen based computers, not the average desktop and laptop user. Microsoft seems to forget that many people are still using Windows XP even and 8 doesn't have the marketability of 7 for computer gamers and those who prefer the traditional design of the PC.

I don't know about 8 as I haven't tried it or even read up on it, but historically we can expect microsoft to push their new OS. My point is that Notch doesn't accomplish anything with his comment, well except for getting some publicity I suppose.
When and if 8 becomes a bigger platform he still have to let his game get certified no matter how shitty he think it is.

In the end he only ends up hurting those wanting to play minecraft on windows 8.

Windows 8 still has a desktop screen. The start screen is just a replacement for the start menu. Just because it is different doesn't mean is bad.

People bitched for years about the start menu, microsoft decides to change it and people still bitch like whiny little kids. Grow the fuck up. Eventually all PCs and OSes are going to be heavily smartphone inspired. People are going to need to learn it eventually. Windows 8 is heading in the right direction. Microsoft could have chosen to go full on change to Metro only. But they didn't. They changed primarily the start menu. Small changes and baby steps they have given users with windows 8. I suspect they will continue to do so with other smaller updates. Then windows 9 or 10 (most likely 9 as smartphone use continues to rise) go full on Metro.

Notch whining as per usual - not really news. He's a hypocrite who sells his product over platforms which he disses, he has a problem with Microsoft's Windows 8 but no issues with iOS and Mac OSX policies, I'm afraid that all his "indie" authority vanished when he made loads of money in a really short amount of time. He got spoiled with his success and deserves no attention.

Minecraft Pocket Edition ≠ Minecraft PC, it's already crippled.

As for OS X, it's not distributed on the App Store.

Wait did I misread the purpose of the certification- I thought it was just a shiny label sort of thing and not like driver signing or some such that actually means something.

As for windows 8.... it could be the first to break the "upgrade every other time" thing MS has had going on but they are going to have to offer a mighty compelling reason to ditch 7 (much like vista did not provide that compelling a reason to ditch XP).

Everything heading for a phone inspired OS.... I could see it happening but I will fight it tooth and nail against it (read just find whatever becomes of the current linux desktop managers and use one of those, also hope virtualisation continues to get better).

Certified software just appears in the Windows 8 App Store. You can still use it the normal way.

I doubt it, one thing about Notch is that when he says he wont do anything, he sticks with it no matter what. If you look at serveral of his older projects you would see that he has indeed dropped many over things like this.

Notch may be a one-hit wonder whos voice really has no power outside of the minecraft fanbase, even other indie devs think he just got lucky, but when he opposes something he will oppose it no matter what.

There's a bit more to that - software certified by Microsoft, as the name implies, is certified to work on Windows operating systems with no issues whatsoever - it's like a seal of approval.
