Ok I havent seen almost anyone talking about this specific detail from the Phil Spencer's emails leaked today.

You probably all heard or read about the news of Microsoft wanting to acquire Nintendo today. But there are some details that almost everyone missed.

Lets start with Phil Spencer saying that

"would be a career moment"

Then

"It's just taking a LONG TIME for Nintendo to see that their future exists off of their own hardware"

So he wants to acquire Nintendo but he's playing the long game. He believes that Nintendo has no future in consoles.

What he means by "long game"? Well they have this firm called ValueAct working for them that "has been heavily acquiring shares of Nintendo"

Phil Spencer says hes been talking with this man called Mason Morfit from ValueAct "as he's been acquiring. It's likely he will be pushing for more from Nintendo stock which could create opportunities for us."

So basically Microsoft/Phil Spencer/Xbox been setting Nintendo up for a Hostile Takeover thru another firm, ValueAct, that they control.

That was in 2020 when Xbox started to rizz Nintendo up and creating this kind of "friendly partnership" between both companies.

But looks like Nintendo took notice of this or became suspicious because as you remember they bought back like 50% of their shares in 2021

And after that the Bad work conditions allegations started.

Same as ABK just that these Nintendo allegations ended up in nothing. But guess what happened with ABK? Microsoft announced its acquisition.

The receipts are there that Nintendo is the "THE Prime asset" and would be Phil Spencer's "Career Moment". Theyre doing a slow hostile takeover to Nintendo by playing the "long game" rizzing up Nintendo in these partnerships. If Nintendo didnt act like they did in 2021 by buying their shares back they probably wouldn't exist today

What you think of this?

Xbox's takeover would be pretty much the final nail to the coffin of the Nintendo's Golden Age (assuming the coffin wasn't already fully nailed thanks to Kimishima and Furukawa). alas, nothing can last forever

What's ABK?

Also, isn't it against Japanese law for a Japanese company to be bought out by an international company? Regardless, Microsoft's already facing a lot of pushback for their ActiBlizz acquisition, and a hypothetical Nintendo acquisition would be even worse, since Nintendo's part of the triopoly - and if Microsoft did get Nintendo, then the duopoly with Sony would be skewed even more in MS's favour, which could lead to a monopoly. There's laws and protections against that.

There isn't a law, but it's more difficult than a U.S. company being bought out by an international company. But Japanese companies are owned by other countries.

I think that even though Microsoft, even just their Xbox division, could afford to buy Nintendo out... there would have to be interest in selling, too. I don't see such a thing happening, and Nintendo seems pretty adamantly opposed to even the thought of it.

This legit has to be a violation of Anti-trust laws. There is no way in Hell Microsoft can be allowed to buy out one of their only 2 competitors.
Worked for T-Mobile, and mobile providers are way more important than video games. America went from 5 mobile providers to 3, because T-Mobile bought two of them, and still continues to violate net neutrality to this day.

It was reported after the failure of the Wii U that Nintendo Japan was sitting on something like $50 billion + in assets. If they did attempt to acquire Nintendo, it would be exponentially more difficult and costly than the Activision/Blizzard merger, let alone the amount of money you would have to bribe regulatory bodies across the world.

Buy out Nintendo and the era of actually owning your games will end. They're the only console manufacturer that still has an interest in producing physical media, both Sony and Microsoft keep making console models without disc slots to then announce their next generation without an option for physical media at all because "people keep buying the cheaper digital-only edition".

I think this is just Phil Spencer's huge ego talking and there is very little chance it will happen. I do however see a possible future where Xbox doesn't exist..
Yeah it's just musing and fantasizing from years ago. He also talks about potentially buying Valve, which is hilarious in retrospect.

I imagine Gabe had a good chuckle about that too. I do wonder what's going to happen to Valve once he steps away though. I really hope he's been training a protégé to continue in his stead.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo would just close down their American branch, and cut ties with everyone, before selling out to Microsoft. Nintendo of America is just there for ads.
If that happens, then NO MORE DMCA TAKEDOWNS! :hrth: :rofl2:

Microsoft is pretty notoriously protective of their IP, too. Maybe not to the same level as Nintendo, but nothing to pretend doesn't exist/isn't enforced either. They also honeypot torrents of their own games or leech and commandeer them to gather IP addresses so they can send their spooky letters to ISPs.

Delusional dreams of a non creative employee.

Nintendo will last longer than Microsucks in the console business, the main reason should be clear to everyone but him.

Just take a peek at what has become of Rare and their games on Microsucks hands.
