Hello guys !
Long long time HBCD happy user here
As I lost my usb stick I was about to re-download HBCD, but then I came acress MediCat (never heard of before)
Coupled with Ventoy (never heard of before) it seems to be a pretty good tool altogether, especially to "just" add ISO to it
I see many applications outdated (DD, EaseUS, AOMEI, ...)
They are .wim .... How do I update them and re-compile the MediCat ?
Is there a sub-menu entry for that which I would have missed ?
I've never managed to get the MediCat running
I've tried on a USB stick, on a SD card, even on the HDD itself, everytime I do the transfer to the USB, the usb becomes unreadable.
I've done differently, just ventoy then copy an ISO (HBCD) to it, that works, except the screen resolution is awful
So ... I'm wondering if burning a BR DL (50GB) would change anything ? As it's a $5 disk, I don't want to just try n' error !
Thks !

before burning it to usb I assume ?
So it's that simple, no compilation needed, just DL'd the source and CC it to the MediCat folder, then burn it ?
Thank you !
So then I'm stuck with my non-working USB stick ....
I've tried both ways, on a 64gb:
- Install Ventoy then move all files (MediCat) to it
- Use the MediCat instller
both ways, I end-up with a USB stick non-bootable, and when seen, counted for 18mb only
NB: When installing ventoy only, it is seen as 64GB, and boot just fine to ventoy.
What should I do, what cmd should I try in console to check and report here ? to give you a better idea of what's wrong
Thank you !

first at all try formatting your USB Stick and check it using H2testw then follow the github repo instructions for Ventoy and try if no booteable may be your BIOS (UEFI) Settings.
Help. I'm New. I created a MEDICAT Boot disk on a Fujitsu ATA hard disk with USB adapter case. Creation went perfectly. Verified no errors. I went use it for recovery of my Gaming computer. Correctly set up bios for boot order. Computer recognised disk but only got as far as "alloc magic is broken at 0X2456000: 24Bdc9b7"I have just opened the MEDICAT app on my other computer and it loads the menu OK.The only other thing I noticed while opening MEDICAT is a Trojan warning by Windows defender.

False positive, recovery tools such as medicat are commonly seen as malware because of some included tools used for recovery, such as ones that modify parts of Windows for your benefit (such as password recovery tools)

Please note: this was not my main question. (I am now sorry I included it).
My main question was regarding the boot error. Starting from the Bios boot order, I only got as far as "alloc magic is broken at 0X2456000: 24Bdc9b7".
I checked the MEDICAT app on my other computer and it loads the menu OK.
I just cannot BOOT from it.

My only guesses are that Secure Boot might be interfering on your main PC, and that MAYBE it's that it won't boot one way, but will boot a different way? I mean that if you're trying to boot it with UEFI on, turn off UEFI. If you're trying to boot it the BIOS way (UEFI off) then turn UEFI on.
I saw that several of the programs on PortableApps are not listed on their website, and therefore are not updated by their tool, how to update them manually or is there an automated way to do this?
Example: the ransomware decryptors...

Has there been an official 'how-to' post about how to manually update the tools within MediCat? Incase there are things that are outdated and such. Also, is it possible to add our own tools to the list?

You replace the boot.wim files of the bootable tools, that's part of the convenience. And if you want to add your own tools to the list, simply copy and paste an existing entry, and rename it accordingly.
