I disagree. It's fine to show off as a "look what this can do", but in terms of actually enjoying playing then it's got a very long way to go.

The annoyance of having to use linux and a hefty overclock makes it less likely that I'll ever bother with it (but then I already have a wii so why would I?).
to play outside of your house

I think it's just funny people were stressing out, that it will never happen and everyone should let their hopes down. And here we are.
Can't wait to see how this runs in 2 years.

I mean, I personally wouldn't play it. I don't want to play Mario Kart Wii badly enough to risk damaging my Switch for a less than optimal experience. MK8D is way better anyway.
But for some slower paced games it might be enjoyable.

Right, but that kinda negates the whole "the h4t3rz said this was impossible" argument.

I remember when the gamecube PSO exploit came out that allowed you to stream ISO from a PC and one game of crazy taxi was enough to make me never bother again.

"risk of damaging my switch"

you guys are so boring xD
the only risk you can have is downgrading battery life in the long term (only if you play handheld) the switch gets hotter playing docked than using the so called "overclock"
I understand you dont wanna use the dolphin emu since it aint optimal but expreding that missinformation over and over again tilts me to the next level

please be smart, judge properly and stop bitching, your fear is just a reflect of your ignorance

That's what I was thinking but too lazy to say.
Good summary.

2ghz is higher than the soc was intended to run at, and could possibly cause issues with your system in the future

Doubt it. Running Dolphin at decent speeds requires clocking the CPU above docked mode clocks.
And the battery is glued in, I would rather not have it fail prematurely. That is exactly what I would consider "damaging my Switch". So where is the misinformation exactly?

the cpu being above docked speed doesn't mean is overclocked, its actually downlocked to run at 1024 mhz. Switch cpu is binned at 1725 mhz, it can run perfectly fine at those speeds WITHOUT ANY ISSUES

that said, when playind docked the system is hotter because is using way more gpu than dolphin, and the gpu is the main heat income of the system

if for you having less batter life in a matter of years is "damaging your switch" (lol), you can always use dolphin DOCKED OR CONNECTED TO THE CHARGER. and that's that, ur issue is gone.

oh cmon, lets be smart here. overclocking doesn't work like that, if it is stable and its not causing any heat, it wont magically damage ur soc because you went further in clocks, specially if its up to the native tegra x1 speeds (even if this variant is not binned for that)

First of all, 2 Ghz > 1.7 Ghz.
Second of all, this is not just about less battery life over a long period, this is about significantly shortening the battery life over a short period of time, and possibly causing it to inflate, because it's not designed for that high of a power draw. There were one or two reports of inflated batteries very early on when "overclocking" became a thing. I can only expect that this will become much more common from now on.
Third of all, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about as you didn't even read the first post where it clearly states 2 Ghz. So please don't talk like you know what you're talking about.

But yes, playing docked or connected to the charger would be fine. Kinda ruins the point though.

It could possibly cause issues, this is fact. The cooling, power deliver shit, etc were not intended to work and may have issues with the CPU running at 2ghz.

i have clearly no idea, but you "doubt it won't get hotter because is above docked speed"

dude, you have NO fucking clue about what your talking about, your own comment proves it, ur just a scared little man mumbling shit about things you didn't TEST YOURSELF

I literally run my switch "overclocked" all the fucking day (with the charger connected obviously) even in horizon, and it's not even that much hotter to begin with, i repeat to you again, main heat and power consumption of the switch comes from the GPU

actually you had more chances to damage your switch using early builds of sx-os than this "overclock" itself.

how can the cooling be a problem if you are not creating that much heat from the cpu to begin with

is worst in terms of heat running dolphin at 2x res, than running it at 2ghz and native res. that also apply to power consumption

ffs. You’re running the CPU at higher speeds than was intended by the vendor, then saying that has no chance of damaging the system. Do you know how stupid that sounds?

With all 4 cores running at 2ghz at full load the fan can quite loud
