I'm not too sure what you mean by that picture...is that why the supercard isn't as good as the R4/M3? The hardware or?

Although now that I look at it, I see the supercard uses a battery...and the R4/M3 doesn't is there a reason why?

As well the chips are different too, anyone have the specifications?

As you can see the SCDS1 hardware is more complex than the M3/R4. So it will have more problems in the start but could turn out better in the future. Also it seems like the SCDS1 uses battery powered SDRAM for saves which is not in real DS carts. That could explain the problems with saves people are having.

As you all point it out alreadly.

Supercard Hardware is more complex. The M3/R4 uses a single chip solution, from the PCB traces, most of them route directly to the IC I/O. It seems that they had got a more efficent way to decrypt & send data from the flash. Thinks this way, if stuff can be done in a single chip solution, why run the hassles of using two chips and transmit data in between them.

Second, the battery. If the cart rely the uses of a battery, thats means your battery will eventually run out. You then have maintance hassle for battery replacement.

Third, the 2 chips solution to me will drain more battery power to the stright forward 1 chip solution.

Fourth, the mechnical PCB layout, M3/R4 had a small curve design for the ease of taking in/out the micro sd.

Lastly, more component add up to more cost. More labour cost for mounting the component. The reason why supercard is more expensive then M3/R4.

I need some advice please >.< I ordered a DS-X while back ago, but it has constantly been delayed, I was thinking of canceling my order but now I have the option to choose a R4 + 1GB microSD memory instead. And it would be shipped on the same day so no more waiting, should I do this? How does the R4 compare to DS-X?

I can’t say how it compares to the DS-X but I can say im sold on it.

As soon as some things I have ebayed get pay-paled I’m going to order an R4. I have been following the flash cart scene for 6 months and I have never seen such a consistently positive response to a product in that time.

I have been waiting to see the difference between the R4, M3-simple and M3-real, well the simple and R4 are identical and the R4 is cheaper. If the m3 real comes out and happens to offer more then the R4 will go to my girl friend.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
