I know, I know. "Another one of these bastard projects looking to steal my money?" Well I'm here to say that this one just might not make you feel any different, but I'm going for it anyways! I'll just skip USN, since really, no Kickstarter is news in my eyes. It's just a potential game of interest that piqued my curiosity more so than anything else I've seen on there so far. If it was already posted and I missed it after my quick search, well, stuff happens. With that said, I present:

This is a project being undertaken by Lars Simkins from Seattle, Washington. If you watch the video displaying his kickstarter, his resume of video effects work is seemingly nothing to sneeze at, and even in an alpha stage, this project is looking like it could be interesting.

"But what is it, you bush beating bastard?" And with that I say: how do you feel about open world games? Feel like they're taking over? Well here's one that apparently focuses less on things attempting to mercilessly murder you every time you take six steps in the wrong direction, and instead shifts to exploration being what the game is really about. Even in the alpha stage, this game boasts a 60km radius of in-game world to explore, enemies to fight, and general goodness to enjoy.

Having gone for almost its entire backer period so far, this only has one week left and has reached a number of its stretch goals. Its aim is to release by January 2014, and it's even aiming to have Oculus Rift support, having reached the stretch goal. Interesting? I'd say so.

This will be on PC, Mac, and Linux, is looking to make it onto Steam, as well as GOG for those who want entirely DRM free goodness.

Check out the Kickstarter page (linked above and again at the bottom of the post) for more gameplay videos and explanations.

Better than something I could probably make if I set out tomorrow. Sure.

The animation had the air of the late N64 and maybe PS2 about it and a proper open world is bastard hard to do well so I am not sure how well this will work.

kickstarter page seems confusing

looks like an ok game but nothing too special
will wait till its out i think
The Kickstarter page is ridiculously full of stuff. It's a lot faster to just read the basics, watch the initial kickstarter video, and watch the videos on their youtube channel. It should give you a good enough idea of what to expect, and how things work to some degree.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
